do it yourself bluing?

could anyone go over the process of do it yourself bluing (like the stuff from brownells) for me, and possibly show some results?. i am thinking about rebluing my savage mark 2 fv because the barrel is poorly machined and looks like crap, as does the factory bluing. any help appreciated

Cold bluing isn't made for large areas. It's really for small scratches and worn areas. Tends to give a splotchy finish. Try the gel though.
Anyway, the directions on the bottle will tell you how to cold blue. Essentially, degrease the steel(Varsol works well, but any metal degreaser will do.) and apply the solution with a clean, lint free cloth. Then oil the steel.
