sounds sily but the 4 mags i got with my DA 556 seemed to not want to cycle until i put a tiny blast of gun oil in them.
Is this normal? do mags need to be "broken in">>?
My LAR15 mag cycled flawlessly.

I know my Beowulf instructions suggest a wipe down with light oil, then clean them off. This "lubes" the parkerizing just a bit.

They run much better when this is done. I find the same is true with my LAR and USGI mags.

thanks Robert and Phat the 30's are a little goofy looking anyway . In all im extremely happy with the first day out with my DA556. had a RO come running askign what i was shooting when i magdumped 10 rounds to test the gun for ability to cycle fast at the range but i showed him the LAR15 mag and he just shrugged. best 599ish i ever spent

Oils in mags just attracts dirt and carbon. Excess oils can potentially get on your ammo and migrate into the primer/powder and make duds. I especially don't like using oils on plastics even though some plastics are impervious to oils and chemicals. If you feel the need to lube the springs or mag to get some light rust off etc, you can clean them to get the crud off then apply a dry lube or wipe them down using one of your old oil rags that you use for gun cleaning, provided they're not soaking wet in oils.

That does nothing, it's the repeated cycling of the spring.

Yes. Pistol mags perhaps. But for rifles don't keep them loaded for days. Strong spring is good.
They just need to polish them a little inside. I cheated a few times with silicon dry lube. Helps them out to start the process... ;)

Exactly. Our duty magazines are metal and we are told under no circumstances are we to oil them. As said it attracts and holds dirt/grit/carbon.

where do you serve where someone would advise you on oiling mags? Wish my IT job boss would tell me about this stuff :) "Buzzy check the utilization on the fileserver AND NEVER OIL YOUR AR MAGS!!!!" :)

Pistol mags/rife mags - same difference.
