Do not use your remington versa max shotgun

Well they have had issues too, Berretta is not on my autoloader must by again after their steel tempering screw ups but is this remington thing a problem with the design or subcontracter? They claim to have shot thousands of rounds in testing but was this a line gun or one of the pre-assembly line hand builts. Not good for a company that was the foundation for many duck hunters ..

Well since this was originally posted, the Versa Max has been available again and while I don't have one, from any reports that I have heard the gun functions very well and people like them.

This Remington trigger BS gets recyled time and time again, ad nauseum. The fact remains that proper gun handling prevents injuries or fatalities as respects firearms.
Anyone that want to give me their defective Remington 700's due to fears about the trigger group, I will be very happy to accept. Jeez, this cr*p gets stale after a while. Eagleye.

I don't even LIKE Remingtons and will take any 700 of anyone's hands because they feel they are unsafe and that also includes the Versa Max, Express, etc...!!:dancingbanana::D

Yes I #####ed about what a piece of junk my express was then buy a 870 wingmaster SP camo and its trigger mech. is composite, well maybe its lighter but I'm a metal fan..

Look, I'm all about weapon owners researching before they buy, and continuing to research if there are legitimate safety concerns about a given product.

But, I have yet to see convincing (scientifically founded, supported by engineering research that we can review) information indicating a problem with the Rem700 trigger design -- only a lot of hearsay and reports by people who seem to have a vested interest in a court case. I have, however, seen some pretty good studies indicating that the "problem" only seems to occur in weapons in extremely poor (even negligent) condition or which have had post-vendor work done on the trigger group.

first hand experience with my dads remington 700 , in 3006 , made in the early 70's

the saftey malfunctioned and he had a accidental discharge , fortunatly no one was hurt . the rifle is in pristine condition ( amoung other things , meaning no one has monkeyed with the trigger ) , only just recently rebarreled , after he had the trigger replaced with a timiny .

once you get guys talking , trigger / safety trigger issues with remingtons are starting to seem fairly common . almost to the point that i have become somewhat paranoind about my own remington .

Two tips to prevent injury from possible accidental (or negligent) discharges.

1. Point firearm ALWAYS in a safe direction.
2. Do not chamber a live round until ready to fire at the target.

Rifles without rounds chambered do not fire.
If in doubt about the trigger on any firearm, send it to a gunsmith to be checked.

Bought a Remington 700 BDL Custom Deluxe Left Hand Short action .308Win back in late 80's. Shot large quantity of ammo through it. No complaints to date. Don't believe everything you hear and only half of what you see. (I've seen some nice Savages also).

Yes, Remington has had problems but I believe this thread started as a discussion about the Versa Max. Has anyone else heard anything about the Versa Max, good or bad, since this thread was started now that the gun is actually available? Is it a gun that could, to some degree, redeem Remington?

Well, I have a friend who has one and loves it.
I also have friends who have other semis and love them, all have told me they are the best semis out there , and better than the old 1100.
That would seem to me that the 1100 is the benchmark everyone is using.
My experience has been with the newer semis is that they are no less in the recoil department than the 1100's I have used.
They are new guns and they like however, and that is what matters...!
