do not want to spend a mint on a scope

I guess this isn't the time to state that the Tasco Varmint on top of my VTR still works perfectly since the day I took it off my .22LR whereas my Bushnell has been sent back for warranty repair :p

I know there are many people that use Tasco's better scopes,
and are happy with them, but won't admit to it publicly.
Higginson's sells lots of them.

I have had good luck with the Vortex Crossfire series of scopes. I have the 2.5-10X50 V-Brite on my T/C Pro Hunter and it works great, I especially like the illuminated reticle. I have also used the 4-16X50 illuminated mil dot with 30 mm tube with great success. These scopes are well with in your budget, the warranty is great, and the distributer/repair center (never needed it) is in Canada.

For what it is worth, I have also used the Diamondbacks and the Vipers, love 'em all, and that is all I use now, exclusively!

That will limit your choices.

Burris FullField II 3x9x40 with B.Plex reticle will give you decent accuracy out to 500 yards. I have had one on 7mm Rem Mag for 3 years/3 seasons and no complaints.

x2. I just hunted with one this year, and I was surprised by the clarity and brightness. I got it for around 170 USD. Good quality for such a low price.
