I've always had a passion for guns since i was a kid. I've had severall bb guns, pellet guns, airsoft guns, and cap guns growing up and I loved playing with them....

As I slowly got into purchasing my first real handgun, doing research online and by phone, all my friends thought i was crazy for wanting to buy a handgun. :slap:

They would say things like "Why do you want a handgun?" "What are you going to do with that?" "You're friggen crazy man!"

Has anyone else had similar experiences with friends and family acting like that?

I'm not crazy, I'm not a psycho, I'm not violent, and obviously I don't have a criminal record...
I'm probably the most chill person you'll ever meet

My buddies have always told me I'm crazy. But not because of firearms. I've always been a responsible citizen.
It mostly comes from my high school days, whereas I liked to drink and raise a little hell....a lot of the time..
My family does not think I'm crazy. I'm just hubby, dad, etc...
People at work probably do. In this new society of fear, I still don't stand for any BS. I'll gladly tell someone very non-politically correct, exactly what I think.
Not sure how I'd fair out in a physc. exam. Don't care to take one.

Goin crazy? Don't miind if I do!

Criminal record...well...#### happens.. hahaha

"Everyone knows that handguns are made only for killing people" that is what I get at a local range form the long gun shooters.

Because in WWI and WWII most people were killed with handguns...not long guns:)

Whenever I say I have handguns (which isn't often) people automatically start to look at me as if they are re-evaluating me. You know the look "Oh" (wow, he's crazy how can I get away from him without getting shot).
You should see the looks on their faces when I show them My AR! Usually the first thing they say is:" isn't that illegal?"

But there are probably people like that in the states, just not as many.

I get asked by hunters why I own handguns, my response is that it is more difficult to shoot a handgun well than a rifle. I find that since I have been shooting handguns on a regular basis, my accuracy has increased with my long guns in the standing position.

I always get the questions of "Why?" and "What do you do with them?"...

Usually it goes one of two ways, people either hate them BUT want to see them

OR

They hate them and don't wanna go near them...

All you can do is educate....

The other day in the lunchroom a coworker overhead me talking to my friend about guns and he said to me "Oh, you're that guy". I asked him what he meant by that and he said "You're the one guy at work that carries a knife and has a bunch of guns". I told him that I carry a knife because it's handy and guns are a hobby of mine.

Actually, the first thing my friend said when I told him I was getting a handgun was "What are you going to do with that, rob a bank?!?"

I don't really care what people think about me but it's too bad there are so many stereotypes attached to the hobby.

Never ceases to amaze me at the number or stupid people in this world.
I too have had the same reactions from people when it comes to firearms ownership but I have had it from my other hobby as well- collecting and restoring vintage military vehilces.

What are ya gonna do with that??? is a common question. My usual rebuttal if I know what their hobby is is to ask an equally stupid question. Then it makes sense to them. What are you going to do with that matchbook collection (closet arsonist?), book collection (bore us all to death with your infinite wisdom), spoon collection, Nascar toy collection etc etc etc.

Bottom line, educate as best you can and maybe make a friend.

People never say anything to me, but I'm pretty sure a lot of them (particularly the university types) are thinking it :p. Fun times.....

Cheers,
Payam

Well, all my family thinks it's grand. We all had parrents with firearms so really it's no big deal. Most of or friends are outdoors people so even if they only fish they are cool with it.

My kids love love the sport and hunting (my kids are 10, 13, 14, 17) My girl (10) is a good shot, whether it is with her pellet rifle, her pellet pistol , or my old cooey .22 rifle and my buckmark.

My 14 year old is sniper material (chip off the old block ;) ). He's in air cadets and his favorite part of it is range.

the other to are none too shabby of shots themselves.

PS. My wife comes from a family like mine, she supports the sports and hunting (she can't pull the trigger on a dear though lol) and loves to shoot at the range as well (she's a member too)

Now, some of my coworkers....lol they either are hunters/owners themselves or think the res of us are looney.... Whatever .

All I know is there are a lot of us out here, and we are all showing up to vote CPC!

Cheers, DW
