I'm scoping my M14, and can't find much info on what - if any - scope rings are a good idea?

I know the rifle is hard on scopes, does that translate to hard on rings?

I have a scope mount that allows me to use my iron sights beneath it, so i don't need quick detach rings. I don't really have a tonne of cash so i'm hoping the answer isn't Smith Ent or ARMS or another super high end option only.

Any suggestions that will keep me under $70ish for a pair of 1" rings that will survive the M14?

I have standard Weaver 1 inch rings on my M-14, no complaints, and they're only about 35$

Wait, does that mean they were ****ty, or not?

Thanks for the advice, i've got a better idea now. I trust you guys more than the guys at the store.

HAHAHA, and that there, good sir, is your first mistake.. but before you do, I have $9,000,000 in a bank account left to me by my late parents. I need only $5000 from you to handle lawyer fees and you can have a whooping 20%...... :)

I didn't have any trouble with the rings on the rifle. They were solid enough to handle it. Where the issue came was having threads strip out, mostly due to my mistake of using blue locktite so they wouldn't rattle loose.

"my mistake of using blue locktite so they wouldn't rattle loose."

Isn't loctite standard practice?

I'm planning on using Warren rings on my M14, seem to get great reviews. They're pretty reasonably priced.

I can go back and see what you guys said 3 years ago via the search function, and for regular posters it is easy to get a sense of how 'trustworthy' they are.
It is surprisingly easy to get a sense of peoples general inclinations, as most posters are helpful first and foremost- especially in a forum like MBR. Don't ask me to waste my time with General Firearms Discussion or the Political Forums though.

Guys in the shop i don't know from a hole in the ground. Maybe after a while, i'm still a newb at this.

Yeah certainly is regular practice. I was doing some optics shuffling for load development though, and as I pulled the 10x40 I had
I liked the rings, i did. They were sturdy, but when I switched optics, they stripped out. I was p*ssed.

I agree with that. 100%.
You can get a read on guys that are dealing on the EE by reading their posts as well. Often those can say more than the trading rating ever will.

The MBR crowd by and large is my favorite, I love the milsurp section though. Between purple, smellie, buffdog (and MANY others) they are a great group.

at one time I did like the PRW rings, but like I said they do strip out easy.
