Do staineless guns spook big game?

i have never noticed a difference. all my ss rifles are matt or bead blast finish. i had a glossy ruger but i had it blasted dull.

I think its movement that they notice and are set to alert by more than anything else. That said, its likely the more contrast the object has from its surroundings, the more evident movement is. Deer don't seem to be afraid of inanimate objects and are often quite curious of them. Several times I've had them walk right up to parked vehicles in the bush while we were either away or I was catching some ZZZZ's. I'd imagine my white face to be more of a problem than the stainless rifle in my hands.

I will say that on a sunny day on the prairie a coyote could spot a stainless barrel, especially when it moves. But, they can spot a blued one too. As many have said, camo tape. I just do the barrel ahead of the stock, I figure my camo clothing will take care of the rest of rifle as I hold it. Sometimes I'll wrap the scope too, just a bit to break it up.

Wookie316....nice rig.....I'm liking it....how long is that sporter pipe?.....:)

I'm enjoying this but back to spooking.

I guess Weatherby considers it to be a factor by the following:

My Dad asked me about this same question before we went on a deer hunt last year. I had my Weather warrior and he had his M94 32 win Spl. I shot two he shot none?????

I think thee are way more things that will spook game then a Stainless Barrel. It does look like a sunbleached dried up branch.

I'm thinking only because he loves you so much and wanted you to be successful so he set you up to take the shots like every other father I know would do for his son/daughter.

I've hunted moose, elk, deer, grizzly, black bear, caribou, & wolves all with my stainless guns 270ss, 30-06ss, 7mmss, 325ss, 338ss, and 375 H&H ss. Never once had then inclination that stainless has spooked or blown my cover. All my other rifles are blued and only for range shooting as I hate a rusted pitted gun and would not have anything other then stainless for hunting. Get caught in a fall rain downpour and not have to worry about a rusting rifle is a calming thought when friends are stressing out about there guns and rushing to get back to camp to dry them out..

I think stainless would be more of a concern for varmint hunting as opposed to big game. There was a good article a while back in Predator Masters on just how different Coyote vision is compared to an animal like a deer.
