Do we all need a Tokarev TT-33?

Hi,

Are those Tokarev a must? I mean they are still cheap and they might disapear one day. Just as SVT-40s pricing doubled, I still kick myself for not getting one.

Are the Chinese Tokarevs as good as the russians? Any metallurgy issues?

Most come with only 1 mag....ammo is available easily....

Your thoughts?
 
As far as collecting goes they are all good buys, assuming the price is right

As far as being a shooter it depends. If your range allows steel core then its fantastic. If you have to use lead core I would think twice.
 
I rarely use mine, the cheap bullets are long gone, just like the SKS no cheap bullets not worth the cost, given the accuracy, after the low cost there is nothing else left, and for collectability they made millions.
 
I have two Type 54 and picked up two Polish guns. They are wicked pistols. I can print a small ragged hole at 15m with surplus ammo. I was actually pretty amazed at the accuracy, so I bought two more "nicer" examples.

No range really like steel core. They dont necessarily do a crackdown, but if prompted they would say no.

Are the polish ones retrofitted with some safety or something?
 
It’s as primitive a semi-modern gun as you can get. Controls are small and ergos are bad. Trigger is gritty. Take down is wacky. I would not recommend it as a first pistol due to the recoil and noise of the x25 round. It’s not good for any form of modern competition. Modern style holsters are hard to find.

BUT.... as a milsurp and piece of history, it has a certain elegance to it. It is surprisingly slim and has a nice heft. It’ll go well in re-enactment shoots with a Mosin or PPSh.
For the price and the ammo, it really won’t hurt your wallet either way.
Or you could get the 9mm version.

PS But if you enjoy loud noise and good recoil, it’s as much fun as a .357 at half the price!

My Polish TT-33 makes a quarter sized hole sandbagged at 15 yards fixed sight dead on.Bought when they were 1/2 the price they are now.If you load 13gr of Win 296 and any 86-90 gr bullet/Starline brass.
 
I guess there is a lot more going on that the cheap price! I got steel core in x39 and x54R, already, more corro stuff to clean...

Start loading your own: I have a load that uses 110gr 30 carbine bullets, and the result is rather like a 9mm in recoil. At work right now or I'd include the data.

I think you'll kick yourself if you don't buy one: I bought mine just a few years back (1947 Izhevsk) for only $169.00 at Lever Arms.

Couple of things: the right corner of the mag will dig into your palm: a few swipes of a file will fix that.

The rear sight can be improved with a needle file: open up that U shape to a square, it helps.

Then, read Travis Bickle's excellent sticky on the TT33. Really great advice on how to improve your TT33.

And as mentioned above, consider reloading for it. The surplus stuff is all corrosive, although Sellier & Bellot sell non-corrosive. Fairly snappy stuff: I got tired of it after a box and a half.

Conclusion: buy it now, or regret it later.
 
yes otherwise your Mosin and SKS get lonely
