Do you criticise other hunters?

...one of our biggest problems in this industry is how we bicker amonst each other and don't support one another. We are constantly fighting amongst ourselves and this my freinds is how the anti's will win thier fights.

That IS the truth. Well said.

Really try hard not to be vocally critical of other hunters ... but do have a hard time none the less, accepting poor ethics, bad form and those who might be described as "slob hunters" , i.e., no respect for the resource, game, land and/or other hunters.

One really shouldn't criticize anothers hunting style or shooting ability, his firearm, his dog, his wife, choice of vehicle - or drink of choice ! Gentlemen and Sportsmen ( and that certainly does not exclude ladies ! ) should learn
a little more quiet tolerance.

Those who like "see through mounts" however .... :slap:

I think it always comes down to ethics and I've got no problem speaking my mind here or in the real world. I'm not going to shut my mouth becuase some jackass says he's a hunter and then takes a 450 yd shot in low light with a rifle he's never handled. If hunters don't attempt to deal with this stuff "in house" some other group will try and do it for us.

Some people like to #### talk....has nothing to do with hunting.

Sounds like buddy doesn't like you Red..... Nothing to worry about.

Seems every coin has two sides, whether it be religion, politics or hunting
ethics ...

Think you can actually get the bozzo who takes that 450 yard, low light, unfamiliar rifle shot to change his ways just cause you got in his face and yapped at him ???

Is he any different than the guy who skybusts at waterfowl 80 or 100 yards up in bright daylight with a shotgun he knows all too well ... but still can't seem to hit them ??? Or the guy who loads up with a bushel basket of fish ... just cause "there's no limit" on them ???

Maybe some of our ethics and hunting/fishing/outdoors practices are
"unethical" or "unnaceptable" to others.

Easy to let your mouth run ... but does it get you anywhere ?

I would just ignore it - what could be easier? Some people just have to be seen as the best, either with their trophies, their "tonnage", their supposed skills, or their supposed contribution to the hunting culture - there's really no difference in the four, they're just differnt ways to stroke an ego. These types tend to be pretty thin-skinned when it comes to any challenge to their place on their pedestal - all the more reason to ignore.

I don't know, he doesn't talk about his hunting exploits to me anymore

Not really. Is he different from the guy who shoots often @ 450 yds with good gear and has a a very realistic expectation about the downrange performance he's likely to get? You bet

Ethics is just a system of morals that you develope(or don't) and adhere to(or don't). If you have good ethics they go with you if you're dogging or baiting or pushing or shooting bp or long range and on and on.

Easy to let your mouth run ... but does it get you anywhere ?

Do you think doing nothing about the few complete morons out in the feild who call themselves hunters gets us anywhere?

I dunno Ike... but the older I get the more I think I can make a difference or influence people, I agree we should try to educate everyone. This forum has taught me a lot about what other hunters think right across the country and the majority of us are on the same page. Although we do have some warts... like being critical and letting the government use our differences as a tool against us!

I agree with you RED. We lost our grizzly hunt due in no small part to non Bear hunter apathy. I'm actually pretty good friends(read grew up with) with some of the "leftwing wackjobs" that were instrumental in shutting it down. As they like to tell me; "Hunters are a collection of individuals not a group!". It's a pretty accurate statement, bourne out by the reality that some individuals state that they do not answer to the standards the group generally sets yet also demand that their actions be condoned by the group reagrdless of what those actions are.

Red, seems to me you both are in the wrong. He was hammering you for your methods, then you in turn hammered him for his.
The thing about getting into pissing matches is you both come out stinky and wet!
But he did start it. LOL

You will always have people like.Big bucks or small bucks or even a doe.ITS a deer ,about 10 years my dad and another fellow went mule deer hunting at Williams Lake. The fellow shot a shot a 2 by 3 buck on the road (it was skill) he shot it about 50 yards in the middle of the road.A day later My dad shot a 10 by 11 non-typical buck (it was a fluck) .The other fellow was bragging how he lead my dad by the hand and showed him the deer to shoot.A deer is a deer. The other fellow has shoot about 20 deer in his 74 years ,my dad has shot over 250-350 deer or more ?? .It show how some guys should wrire books and not hunt or fish.

Bigredd, i talk sheet about you all the time.................And your friend Tony, too...

Because both of you have done zero for introducing youth to hunting, don't take kids out, and get angry when kids tag along because it may spoil your chances of nailing "the big one"

:)

:D I'm no expert in any matter, but from my dealings with people like your "critic", this has nothing to do with hunting at all. The "idiot" seems to have a self esteem issue and thinks he has to knock down everyone else to try and make himself look good. He thinks that his Trophy Buck will make people think more highly of him and respect him more. Anybody that does not do what he does is an idiot and gets verbally trampled. All this just so he can tell himself he is better than everyone else. I normally don't let people like this bother me too much. People can tell if he is just bs'ing to make himself look better. Your character, Mr Bigredd, will speak for itself I'm sure, just don't stoop to his level. -Dr. Phil:D

I dunno, I maybe came across like I disagreed with his methods but I don't. I have no issue with Trophy Hunting... actually I chased big bucks exclusively for a few years. I still like to talk to other hunters about some of the tricks I used on dominant deer. I certainly do not pass up a trophy if I see one, but it is not my main focus any more.
I honestly believe that the difference between him and I is that he looks down on me for my type of hunting... And I look down on him because of his immaturity and inability to see the big picture.
The other difference is I would not talk about him behind his back... that is why there are no names mentioned here.

I talk #### about you all the time. Exactly why I refer to you as Little Pink. And your sidekick/boyfriend Julian as well. As a matter of fact, next time I see your black beach buggy there, I am going to stop by and give you a good old ass whooping. Or maybe I will wait for you to walk across the parking lot, and send the landshark for ya!!!

And you know, that there is an open invite for a shoot em duck hunt anytime you want. And screw ethics, we'll let em land so you can shoot em on the water!!!!!!

WF

PS....Filled that second tag this morning. Nice tom, beat up and light from fighting and bangin, but a decent beard and hooks on him. He just finished mounting a hen, when i gave it to him.

Check your pm's.
