Do you find this fair??? Indians allowed to hunt Provincial Land in Shorthills

What really bothers me about this thread is the obvious jealousy and hatred that is being spat out by so many.

The message I am hearing is special hunts are a great idea as no one has opposed the idea of hunt in the park, as long as I am the one who gets to do the hunting.

If it is not me then heaven help whoever it is because there is going to be hell to pay!

As far as I know for this park no "sharpshooters" have been there. Its a pretty tight knit community around there and if there was it would be known. Its not a matter of hatred or jealousy, its fairness, as I posted in the header. Heck if they had a draw and I wasn't drawn would I care? No, but I know someone that paid into the system is having the right. As for all you making it sound like a million dollar project I can assure you it wouldn't be.

well for 500$ you can be a indian too! some will sell you anything. Status Cards, Smokes, Fireworks, whatever they can.. save the taxes, my favorite is the fish that they catch out of season with illegal nets and sell out of the back of a truck for 10$ and anything that dont sell they dump.. feed there people my a ss .. so much waste.. . f uck em , we won that war
500$ Status card = $6000 in taxes on a new truck :)

Actually it's about equality for everyone, regardless of race. Allowing someone special privileges because of their race is racism, and anyone that supports such things is a racist. People are objecting to this hunt on the basis of only one race having the privilege of taking part, so those people are in fact expressing their objection to the racism that is occurring.

Special hunts are a good thing, as long as the opportunity to take part is made available to everyone, and not based on race.

All over Canada and the US "Nuisance Animals" (which deer are classed as when overpopulated) are shot by police, military or private contract sharpshooters and dumped into landfill. Most of the time you never hear about as they do it very quietly at night and have the bodies in the landfill before we wake up.

The issue with a draw is a matter of practicality and expense.

The draw could not simply be announced on the web as you would be discriminating against those without internet access, public notification would need to be equitable.

The best way would be to hold the appropriate public consultations with all interested parties, likely the most fair would be to split the WMU with a letter suffix for just the park. This would require further public consultations and to be implemented would require all the publications and websites containing WMU maps would need to updated along with the phone and internet tag systems.

So, administratively that draw would require at least 5-10 years and probably $1,000,000 to implement equitably and effectively. Realistically this problem is not big enough to require this level of government effort.

This means that a low cost solution to "Nuisance Animals" is going to be implemented, i.e. First Nations special harvest or OPP sharpshooters practicing their trade over a bait pile using night vision optics and a dump truck.

1. I don't want my taxes going to pay for a special draw.
2. I don't want the animals in a landfill.

Funny, I have a pretty good friend that is an avid hunter and is also an OPP officer, he has never heard of such a thing as a late at night sharp shooter clean up that ends up in a land fill, now you sound like you are talking out of your a$$, seriously LOL, ....SERIOUSLY.

Theres a place called Long Point, if you want to duck hunt there, you get there really early in the morning and line up, first come first serve, after all the blinds are taken, everyone else goes home and tries again the next day, doesnt cost anyone anything, surely not a million dollars.

As for jealousy, maybe its just time that people see "whitey" being treated as the minority now, and all we want is equality, just like you or any other race. This has NOTHING to do with race in my books, it has to do with it NOT BEING FAIR to me or any other non native that would also LOVE this once in a lifetime oppertunity.

Seriously, you aren not helping your people with some of your conspiracy theories at all. Admit it, you are native and you feel like the world owes you something, thank God some of my native friends do all feel the same way as you do!!!

Sorry I am not native and do not feel the world owes me anything, as I stated before I get 3 months to bow hunt and I consider that a blessing.

If you don't think Police are sent in to dispatch Nuisance Animals based on jurisdiction you are kidding yourself. It is possible that the OPP are not as discreet as other groups or maybe defer to MNR but it certainly happens.

If you don't think so when was the last time you heard of the authorities allowing hunters to go in out of season and shooting nuisance bears that need to be dispatched? The police generally do it themselves assuming they are equipped.

First come first served is not a bad idea, I had not thought of that.

My point is I will not hate someone else because they have an opportunity I don't.

It's not about hate, it's about voicing our objections to the racism that is being promoted by the officials that are allowing this type of thing to happen.

As a member of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy I will answer a few questions that have come up, but I won't get into a pissing match. I won't defend everything Natives do, nor will I be the CGN apologist for everyones hurt feelings for being treated unfairly. I'm not taking part in the hunt this year as i already have my deer for the year, from a local farm I have permission to hunt.

Is it fair - NO, its not intended to be fair. There is no overpopulation nor is it a cull hunt, which have used all hunters in the past in Ontario, Long Point comes to mind. Just like 12.6 holders, some people just have different rights under that law than others. Should all 12.6 holders give up their right to have such guns to be like the rest of us that legally can not?

I suspect MNR is helping organize the hunt because it was going to happen with or without them. Legally they can't do anything to stop it, as reference to the constituation states. MNR has a good history of working with the Confederacy on such matters. Six Nations members regularly hunt in other parks and public areas, mostly with bows, without MNRs involvement.

Archery wise, there are a number of good bow hunters on Six Nations. With a crossbow anyone can be a good shot in a few days. Given its a park, you could probably go in with an apple in one hand and a hammer in the other and harvest deer. Its not intended to be a sport hunt, its to fill freezers. I suspect as many deer as the 15 to 20 hunters need will be harvested, many of which will be used at the longhouse for feasts and ceremonies.

Rez cars - we still have a few at Six Nations, but you are more likely to see a new Hummer, Escalade, Large pickups, Suburbans, etc. I would hazard a guess that Six Nations is one of the richest First Nations in Canada, mostly cigerette income.

A Nuisance bear is a lot differant than thinning an entire population of deer. And its not about hating anyone, its about wanting the same privilages as someone else, thats all, nothing more nothing less. Its not bad enough that you and I as hunters only get a single deer tag per year (depending on your WMU of course) and have 3 months to fill it with a bow or 2 weeks with a shot gun/rifle season, yet a native has all year long, and no limitations on what size, what ### or how many he takes. And to top it all off, I cant do it for free, I have to pay to have a hunting license, a gun license, and a tag, pay for the hunter safety course, pay to write the test, pay to take the firearms safety course, pay to write that test, etc etc etc. it never ends for me, and I'm the one not getting the "privilage" that some others are getting that havent done any of the things I mentioned.

Fair is fair, this just isnt it....

I hate the idea that it isn't fair....Would I do it if allowed?? Yup....Would I flaunt it to those who can't?? Not a chance...Not all do this, but the ones that do, have been doing I fine job rubbing others the wrong way...These are usually the ones who do it just because they can, and make pigs of themselves while doing it...The very reason these threads get so heated...
