Do you have a 1950 dated Long Branch?? SURVEY

Sorry for the delay - getting past a bout of pneumonia.

#1 91L6, blued, 49, blued, blued, blued

#2 94L0, park, 50, park, park, park

#3 has been re-numbered sometime in its life to BA57*** so not of any value to this survey. blued, barrel 50, blued, blued, blued

L.E. - temporarially misplaced that tag you had asked about. I'll let you know when I find it.

Have a look at this page.
http://www.euroarms.net/vetrina/UK.htm

There's several 1950 LB's on there. 93L0094 appears to be blued.

I wish someone would import some of these rifles to Canada.

If you have a 1950 dated Long Branch, I need some information please: :runaway:

1. what are the first 3 digets of the serial #? eg.) 91L6
2. Is the action blued or parkerized?
3. what is the barrel date? ( 2 digets found on the knox-form) eg.) '50
4. is the barrel parkerized or blued?
5. is the bolt parkerized or blued?
6. is the striker parkerized or blued?

Thank You for your help.

I'm trying to pin down when LB switched to parkerizing from bluing.
I've been telling people for years that they switched early in 1950, but have come across info indicating a later date of change-over.

Unfortunately my sample is quite small, so I'm appealing to everyone for info.

Dam... lots of nice LB's on that site:

Loyalist Arms tried to see about getting some of them but gave up when a bunch of tightwads whined that they wouldn't pay more than $150...d'oh...

If I had a company I'd import about 30-40 of them- I'll bet they'd sell.

BTW, who'd pay $500 for a good LB- maybe if enough people respond some business will notice...

Judging by the pics, I believe that ALL of the No4s are from Canadian supplies. Most of the "foreign" guns (WWII LB, Brit & Savages) appear to be Canadian FTRs.

Because of that I wonder if this isn't also where the 128,000 odd Canadian MkIIIs went after the war....

It really bugs me that some people's attitude that Enfields are $100 guns prevented a choice selection of these from returning to the country. Loyalist was totally disgusted. People practically threatened him that he couldn't sell them for more than $150.

I guess that this thread is still ongoing so.....I have just received what I believe is a like new....possibly never issued Longbranch dated 1950. I believe that it is parkerized....serial # 93L15XX. Beyond my wildest dreams for an unseen trade for! Appears that the bolt, striker, bands, barrel and nose cap are all park'd. I forgot to get the barrel date when I had it apart...next time. Magazine blued. For what it's worth I think that $500.00 is about the going price for a Longbranch matching these days. Dave

50 Or 51?

I too never found the 1950 Long Branch rifles interesting until this thread started up here and on Milsurps. I've now got two parked 1950's. One is Head Damage's and is near mint with according to him a 51 barrel date. The other is the pictured sporter with also a 51 barrel date. I was planning to remove the sporter wood from the second one until I saw it- it is beautiful...can't bring myself to touch it. The rear CMk3 sight was bent up when I got it and I swapped in an NOS Mk I Long Branch rear sight, which I am well aware is wrong but it sure looks good...
I wonder if these rifles were made in 1951 using 1950 stamped actions? The facts seem to fit.

Just got my first Longbranch, 95L7 with everything parked but the bolt looks blued compared to the rest of the metal. Barrel is marked 51 and for a gun that I thought was used, wear on stock, the barrel channel was filled with what must be the cosmoline....Bob

Have a look at this article regarding removing cosmoline. I have a rifle to de cosmoline too, I'm going to buy a hand steamer and do it per the article. I'm not wanting the chemicals in the house...been there done that...

Did you get a good deal on the 50?

1950 - 93L1---- all blued, got mine in the cosmolenee as well, but of course, just had to shoot it. Most accurate No4 Mkl* I've ever seen. Just loves that cheap silver box Winchester 180grn offering as well as the DCRA Mk Vlll. bearhunter
