Do you have a favorite 6.5mm mono bullet?

Looking to see how a new 6.5 CM likes a variety of mono bullets.

Which have you liked, on game? Got a fav?

A buddy of mine has been really happy with the 99gr Hammer Hunters I loaded up for his 6.5CM

They punch some impressive holes due to a unique combination of a fragmenting nose and a flat shank that penetrates and cavitates.

Fast, accurate and easy to load 👍

Those sound deadly alright. Those and the Cutting Edge bullets are quite a different design

I've had good success with the Barnes 127gr LRX out of my creedmoor. It's a shame that I wasn't able to find the bullet because I would have loved to have seen the expansion at 500m

140 gr Hornady ECX shoots lights out in my 6.5(7.5 twist). not a high BC but it is on the heavy end for homogeneous bullets.
I haven't poked a critter yet though.

Cool, I have a box of those 140 gain ones I'm looking to use for 100 to 150 yard hunting just because they look cool and I'm curious. 100 yard expansion in junk I've shot with em looks good!

Nice! Can't knock the performance based on results it seems but I wish we could see that bullet too. Looked like it performed well, from all indications?

Looking to try that one with both H4350 and StaBall 6.5

Awesome, I wish we could see that bullet to! Although it sounds like it did the job?

Definitely sounds like a very solid "one and done" all rounder. I'd like to try it with H4350 and StaBall 6.5

I'll have to try catch one in a milk jug this year... I've tried but it still burried itself somewhere behind two jugs hahah

It sure did, my bear ran maybe 30 yards. I did follow up with a second round once he stopped running but he was already done at that point.

My velocity is definitely slower than most would be able to get at 2800fps, stills had no issues at ~1900fps impact velocity and about 1000ftlbs at that distance. Velocity was slow because it was shot out of my 18" PVA barrel. This was on my Curtis Custom Valor action (quick change action, so I've got half a dozen cartridges I shoot out of this rifle)

I'd have opted for something heavier just because it's available to me, but I don't think there's anything that wouldn't go down from two holes in the lungs with any cartridge

Im glad to hear this.
I have been flirting with these and the cutting edge El raptors.

I have about 400 barnes in 6.5 that i need to justify first or sell.

Im really jonesin to try the hammers in my 6.5 grendel.

George's Shooting Shack may have stock of some Hammers
They also carry some Cutting Edge
But GSS charges your home and kid's college fund for shipping!!
Sadly.

Better off importing hammers yourself

PR told me they are looking at bringing in Cutting Edge so everyone who wants to shoot monos should be hounding them to make it happen.
The retail cost puts off a lot of retailers I think so we need to tell them we are willing to pay it as long as its reasonable.

I’ve had very good luck with the Barnes 145 LRX in the 7mm which is very very similar to the 127 LRX in the sub 250yard range. Remember that monos need speed, lots of speed. They suck at long range for expansion.

Please please please don’t shoot an animal at 500yards out of a 6.5 creedmoor with the 127 LRX.

Unless your forced by law, why would anyone bother. I have heard so many bad stories of lost game because of velocity being too high or too low. I realize all bullets have an envelope in velocity where they perform the best but why not just shoot something like a Trophy bonded or similar? Best of both worlds. Is it just the fact theres lead in the bullet. Maybe a move to CalliFornEyeAye is in the future lol. Dont say its because theyre more accurate cuz thats just plain BS.
