Do you have a good quality bullet for the old .303?

Better for hunting? Much big game has been taken cleanly with "regular" quality bullets in the old 303. You just have to know were to plant 'em.

303

I m partial to Sierra 180gr and Taipan 215gr out of the old ones 174gr HPBT for playing with on paper :canadaFlag:

I guess it's already been said, but...while not a "premium" bullet as defined by price category or gun writers, the Hornady Interlock is an excellent performer at .303 velocities.

Ive seen very good weight retention out of the Remington 180 grain round nosed cor lokt. Id suspect the Hornady 174 grain would be very similar

Go for it!! The "non premium" bullets are just fine for us commoners to struggle along with. I used a good old Churchill .303 for years with whatever kind of bullets I could find. Seemed the deer would fall over just fine. I also used Sierra 150 gr in an ugly old 8mm-06. Same thing - deer fall over. :p :p The last three or four seasons I've used a well worn 32 Win Special 94 - deer fall over.:p :p

You don't need premium bullets to kill game, you don't need premuim bullets to kill game, you don't need premium bullets to kill game, need I say it again.
The premiums help if your getting impact velocities over 3000fps, but out side of the screaming magnums you don't need them.
I've killed and have seen killed literally hundereds of head of game, from moose to mice killed with plain jane old cup core bullets.
Shoot what is most accurate in your rifle and get good with it, the bullet going where it is supposed to is what kills, not all the glitz and galmour.

The cartridge provides plenty of power, the biggest problem is that we're shooting fighting rifles where MOA is secondary to real world reliability and rate of fire. The velocity of ammo that can be safely shot from #1s and #4s does not warrant anything more than good ol' cup n' core bullet construction, and IMHO Hornady rules.
