Do you have a Norinco NP 40?

I've had one for more than 10 years, not shot it a lot.
The only rounds that I can get it to feed semi reliably are handloads with cast round nose. What are other owners using? I've upgraded to a s&w mp40 and I'm ready to dump the Norinco on the EE with full disclosure.
Anyone tried polishing the feed ramp? It's built like a tank and fairly accurate, it just jams on the feed ramp every other mag.

I've had one for around 10 years. Not sure of the exact round count but at least 3 cases. When I first purchased it I had some reliability issues, then purchased a half a dozen MECGAR magazines. The pistol has been 100% reliable with the new mags.
A few years ago I loaded up the Norinco mags just to see if they would function, ftf all over the place.
Maybe try CZ or MECGAR mags.

Mine would only feed lead round nose, flat point reliably; round nose, truncated cone, and X-Metal coated in all shapes and weights would not feed worth a s***. Yes, I did polish up the ramp, blended it so there was no edge to catch at the transition between the frame and the barrel ramp; no improvement. I lots of different ammo loaded, and could not shoot it. I bought a Jericho all steel .40; very accurate, fits me better, and shoots everything (except the X-Metal); their coated bullets are crap.

I had to get one because a friend gave me some .40S&W ammo, eighty or a hundred rounds. I think the ammo was Wolf.

So I bought a used NP40, converted the ammo to empty cases without a stoppage and sold the pistol and brass.

I bought my NP40 used. Previous owner said he shot 100 rds. I have only fired 3 x 10-rd mags of my full power reloads using home cast 180 grain Lee mold truncated cone.

No hiccups.

Mine works fine. I use regular mags and Berry's 180gr HP plated in my handloads. Don't really shoot it a lot though. I do use Sig P226 mags in my NP58 .

I had trouble with my Norc magazines. Fire a shot, mag would fall out, or fail to feed. I have some mecgar & promags for it and it shoots the cast TC & SWC's just fine.

Ha-ha! Mine would spit his mags too. The store did a bit of filing and now they hold. These guns have an extra strong catch spring and the mags are quickly scratched.
As mentionned MecGar mags work better. The problem comes from the feeding ramp having been shortened halfway or so to make it look like a Sig barrel. Each cartridge I pull out shows a gooffy smile across the bullets (LEE 175 TC) flat nose. from hitting the base of the ramp.
It is a credit to the original design that most reach the chamber.
