Do you have a REALLY mild 30-30 load for small game?

I tried the 4.5gr Unique with a .311 hardcast round ball (45gr) load over a chrony. The results are looking good.

MV - about 850 - 900FPS. Pop can accuracy @ 20 yards. Sounds similiar to a subsonic .22long.
I will be playing around with this load a bit more.

I use a similar load for grouse, a 32 cal round ball seated sprue up over 6 grains of bullseye. Accurate enough for 20-25 yards.
A dab of bullet lube on top helps a bit.
You seat the ball with your thumb, no press needed.

These need to be single loaded in a lever gun of course.

Do you have any trouble getting .311-.312" projectiles in the neck of the case?

EDIT: Or do you use fired brass that hasn't been re-sized?

.311 is the corect sizing die for cast bullets destined for the .308 caliber guns.

No problems encountered. I neck resize all my rifle brass except thise destined for ny semi's. I shot lead in all my guns including my M14 and SKS.

Bob, could you expand on using cast bullets in an SKS. Presumably in brass use for hunting loads, or new brass. And supposedly, you would need to single round load.

Thanks

Hi Don

I use reloadable brass. You can load the SKS to use as a single shot or load for cycling.

PM me your email address and I can send you my spreadsheet with loads for the SKS.

Gun functions fine with no problems using lead cast bullets.
