Just got word from Dave George out of Australia that the third edition of his book, "Carvings from the Veldt", will be coming hot off the press in December and is available for purchase. He has unearthed another 338 carved rifles, carbines and sidearms from the Anglo-Boer war. These books are great studies of the personal treatment given to rifles by Boer and, in some cases (post-war), soldiers who went to Southern Africa for this conflict. Lots of excellent photos.

Dave will combine shipping of several books to save purchasers a bit of money. Anybody else in the Calgary area interested in joining my order for a copy?

If the moderators will allow, here's a link to his website: http://www.boerwarriflecarvings.net

My 1897 Loewe carbine is in his first volume, but it's hardly 'carved' having just the name of the previous owner roughly cut into the stock.

This strikes me as a fresh excuse for those of us fortunate to have an example to describe/post photos.

Here's mine, which will be in this third volume. OVS contract rifle, DWM manufacture. Large heart carved into the right side of the buttstock, and the owner's name carved on the left. Tac, got a photo of yours you can post? Carbines are thinner on the ground. (and what page in Vol. 1? I'll pull out my copy to take a peek)
