Seems to me it's a cheapish semi-auto with a lot more power than an SKS - assuming you can find the cheap FMJ for practice. I see Marstar is sold out of the stuff

epps had some Czech ammo two weeks ago and al simmons has a small amount of some as of yesterday.
I plan on taking one for moose this fall. If you are going to hunt with it. Just remember to make sure the threaded gas port is on good and tight as it tends to loosen off allowing the gas system regulator pin to spin. This pin has settings 1-1, 1-2, 1-3, 1-5 and 1-7. Experiment and use the lowest setting that will give you consistent ejections. The setting you want should face straight up allowing that size regulator hole to line up with the barrel port. If it spins a bit and is halfway between two numbers you will get ejection problems since the holes don't line up. Also if it is set to low for the ammo you use you will get ejection problem. Things you don't want when hunting. I use 1-5 and get consistent cycling with Czech lacquered cases. Probably go lower with brass hunting stuff.

Yes, I plan to whack a mule deer. I just received the no-drill scope mount from Frontier and it's a tight fit but very nice. After I find the right scope I'll use my Sellier & Belloit soft points to hunt. Remember that the surplus is FMJ and not legal to hunt with.
