do you keep your pump forend tight or a bit loose ?

Curious whether you 870 or 590(a1) owners keep your forend end tight or loose on the action bar tube ?

I tend to keep mine tight but of course this can slightly twist action bars.

Keeping it a touch loose wouldn't twist em, but if feels sloppy to me.

What you you guys do ?

Yes.

At first it might seem like a stupid question .. however, recently someone handed me their shotgun and his forend was a bit loose. Not really loose, just enough to freely move.

So I asked and the reasoning was when he racks the slide it doesn't twist the action bars. Of course I already realized this, but never worried about it and keep it snug.

Was just curious if anyone else loosened it up ?

Always keep mine snug, never realized you could do anything else. Never had a problem but I'll try it a bit looser just to see how it functions. Learn something new every day on this forum.

I'm not advocating it ... (assuming castle nut will become more loose over time) ... just thought the guys theory at least made a bit of sense regarding action bar twisting.

It's the only thing that keeping from shooting out my barrel. Loose barrel is never a good thing IMO...

That's what I told the guy ... but he had a "theory" .... lol

That's crazy , keep it tight , I have a old Ithaca 37 , that one time I hadn't tighten the castle nut on the forend down enough ,and while working the action the pump handle slid right off the slide action assy , just saying , not smart .

Train. Cycle the action properly. Muscle memory goes a long way.
