.22lr always in the tractor and in the day you could hang them in your back window infront of the Laird bar. Shot a 223 acouple of times and some shot gun at the dump at rats. Just got a CZ 455 Combo .22/.17 just incase it was a mouse round. Then got 15hundred rounds of Feds for spring. 6month in the case and still got 15hundred rounds and my eye is starting to twitch. Getting warm out, gonna be fun! Bad winter pounding nail in the snow and looking for a pick me up...Bahaha.

17hmr compared to a 22lr is like comparing a 5.0 Mustang to a Ford Festiva

The added speed, distance and accuracy is phenomenal, so much so I am literally giving away my 22 as I now hate shooting it
 
Hard to make sense of your post other than the title, but....... yea the .17 is great, little underpowered for anything larger than a muskrat though.
 
They both have their place. I have a .204 that will blow away any 17 hmr but still have a 17 hmr barrel coming for my Sako Quad. Nothing beats the old .22 LR for plinking fun and cost.
 
My 17 is a great little toy to play with. Well not right now as its all torn apart, but it will be up for gophers this spring.

^amen to that...but yes, 17HMR is a remarkable round that will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about rimfires. My first 17M2 (purchased fall 2012) really rattled my opinion of the HMR, but I've yet to put any hunting time in behind it...so stay tuned. The largest animal I've ever hunted with an HMR was big Ontario groundhog and to be 100% honest, I wasn't overly impressed with it's effectiveness. .22WMR does a much better job. Anyhow, of the two (HMR and M2) I reach for the 17M2 more.
