Do you own one or more redundant rifles?

I have two of everything except shotguns. I am having a hard time finding a shotgun that is equally as good but different enough to not be basically the same

Redundant?? Hmm. Nope. Not me. Those of you who know me also know I would never, ever fib. The truth is, I'm way, way past redundant. I'm one of the dudes that bring out the "I only own guns that I use" crowd to crow about why own a gun you don't shoot. As Rhett Butler said, "Frankly, my dear...", well, you know the rest.

Sort of on the subject, I was at the Brooks gun show and an older guy shows up at our table and starts in about all these plastic stocked guns and on and on. I suggested that the younger crowd are probably laughing at us old geezers who like walnut and steel. The old boy didn't have an answer for that one.

I have lots of overlap in my cartridges but every rifle is set up a little differently so they lend to the various hunting scenarios differently. The only category that I don’t have spares or variations of is my slug gun. That Savage 220 just doesn’t miss and kills nicely.

My centerfire rifle stable looks roughly like.....
223
22-284
243
257 wby
6.5-284
26 Nosler
7mm WSM
308
300 WSM
300 Norma
338 Lapua
35 WSM
375 Wby
458 Socom
458 win mag
45-70

It's a little comical and a little painful watching self-deception unfold...

No, but yes. Multiples of the same rifles, two of which i have never even shot, not even a big fan of their actions in one case, but just love having them.

4X 22LR
2X 12 guage shotgun
2X 7RM
4X rifles that are essentially different variants of the same thing in real world conditions.....
Nope no redundancy at all.....maybe I should buy more guns so I can have redundancy too!

I avoid duplication and owning guns just for the sake of ownership. The only duplicate chamberings I own are two in 300H&H. One is a synthetic stocked beater and the other is a BDL grade 721.

One could justify owning both 300s by using the beater in foul weather and the 721 on nicer days. I'll probably just sell the beater down the road once I get the 721 going and use a synthetic 280 in it's place.

I think its possible to have a number of rifles chambered for the same cartridge without them being redundant, since each rifle is acquired for a specific purpose. Lets consider the .308 Winchester cartridge. Prior to the ban, one could own a military style semi-auto rifle chambered for .308, or post ban a Garand, an FN-49 or similar rifle which would be useful in service rifle competitions, personal defense, and so on. A .308 target rifle could be used in competition like F class, for varminting, and long range shooting. A light weight carbine chambered for .308 is a dandy deer rifle, and might well be the go to rifle of the rural household for problems that can only be solved with gun fire.

None of my rifles be redundant as they all have their own specs like in my Win 94's or Lee Enfields fer instance.
They only be redundant in name & action type mostly. My .22 rimfires be redundant in chambering of course.
;)

About 80% of what I own is redundant, but also about 80% was inherited or given from relatives. I have a bunch of boring stuff like post 64 win 94, lake field mk II, Stevens pump shotgun, moss berg bolt 20 gauge. Not all that exciting but belonged to grandparents so I am kind of stuck with them till I can hand them off to another generation.

Also a P-17 chambered in .303-308 Norma apparently... I’ve been debating rebarrelling it for years, but I’m a lefty, so.. poor investment really.
