Does it ever get to anyone else when they go sit to set up a blind or hunt in an area only to find a pile of shotgun shells left there by someone else. Does it really take that long to pick them up when your done? Sometimes I notice that even at publically funded ranges there's always someone who will go and shoot 100+ skeets and not bother to pick up and of his empties.

Does any body else concern themselves with this or let this bother them? Or do any of you leave your empties around? Just wondering what other peoples' thoughts are on this.
 
I don't mind when people leave shotshells lying around. I like to line them up and knock them down when I bring a .22.

I reload .40S&W and .45ACP.
I have been compared to a "junkie", looking for his lost stash.!

I look at it as aerobic exercise, helps keep the love handles in check. LOL
 
I won't go swimming for them... but my Springer used to retrieve empties if I told her too. I try to leave nothing behind but footprints... I even pick up garbage that is not mine.
 
In the field whether hunting or target shooting I don't leave my hulls or brass but I don't make a big point of making sure I have every one.

At the range I usually retain my brass and hulls for reloading. Our club has a requirement that you have to pick up your hulls but it's not followed by most shooters. But if someone is leaving AA or STS hulls around I'm more than happy to clean up after them. :D
 
I'm with BIGREDD on this one. Never fails to amaze me how much trash some folks will leave behind them.
 
i wotn leave trash or emptys behind, i often take my wife and kids out where i hunt opr shoot for walks and cant stand seeing garbage
 
Lots of combines have metal detectors in the header and they will pick up a shotshell. You can imagine how impressed a farmer is about stopping work topick up your shells.

Wanna piss off a farmer, leave your emty shells in the field.
 
I'm not much of a shotgunner, so the shotshell option doesn't really apply to me. I pick up my reloadable brass when I can find it (80-90% success rate), and I can't be bothered with rimfire brass. Brass left out in the environment degrades and returns to the environment in a short enough time. As does steel cased surplus, though that stuff is hardly 'hunting' ammo 'cept for maybe gophers
 
A buddy of mine (actually his user cp on gunnutz is "Jay") actually had a ring made with the casing from a deer he shot...I thought that was a pretty cool idea.
 
I am also one who picks up everything, I keep all the brass and shotgun shells also. I even bring a nice big garbage bag
 
I always grab my own (Even rimfire if I can find them) . I've stumbled across some real old shells in some remote area and for some reason I don't mind that kind of litter.
 
It's amazing, pay a premium camoflage clothing, guns, blinds, boats and leave a trail of leftovers behind for the next person or the next time and they wonder why their are fewer areas that welcome hunters each year. If you bring it, take it back is the best idea not to wear out the welcome..

I don't know about where you hunt, but here on the coast we're either on the public foreshore, right beside the public walking/hiking/cycling on the dikes. They're pretty tolerant of us still being allowed to hunt there, so we damn well better keep it clean.

If any more doughheads shoot swans during snow goose season though, there is one place that'll get closed soon.

And we're not allowed to shoot on the dikes, but people do and even leave those shells lying there. Dumb!

And another place we get to hunt is farmer's fields, so it is only polite and sensible to clean up after the shoot.

I go to some places in the off season and collect shells.

+1 I always have a few black garbage bags in my glove box. a day trip in the bush usually sees them both full upon return.
 
At the end of our skeet shoots everyone goes around and picks up empty hulls.Most guys are pretty good on the rifle ranges but threre are some that won't pick-up. If you take it in you take it out.
