Do you prefer an AR-15 with or without a fixed front sight?

High quality folding sights for me (KAC / Troy) the KAC are on the KAC carbine and the Troy on my 10.5. Will likely swipe them once I get rid of the 10.5 and replace it with an 18 inches upper. All hell is gonna break loose before I break my ACOG and I am planning to put another rock solid optic on the 18's (either USO or Leupy Mk6).

No fixed front sight for me unless it's going to be used exclusively for shooting with irons or a retro build. Other than these 2 exceptions I use flat tops and Troy BUIS only. No reason to have a useless piece of junk sitting up in front of my face if I don't need it!

I like the A2 FSB with bayonet lug on my mid-length AR, kind of old school style. The good thing is it allows me to utilize MATECH backup sight and M7/M9 bayonet, so this combination works for me very well. It depends on your preference and functions. Here is mine.

Both ar's have the front sight and I don't notice them on either gun...aimpoint or 1 x 4. Wish the 16 was a mid length but that's it.

These days with the reliability of modern combat optics I don't think the Front Sight has a role anymore.

It gets in the way of NV systems and blocks the performance of day optics.

I tend to agree with you. The only thing is for police or regular military I personally think it might be around a while longer. I know with Police gear if there is a way for it to be broken, lost or screwed around with it will happen. The front sight is good for this level and with multiple users. Individually issued and to those who will look after their equipment it's a different story.

With the Mk6 better pics coming.
You are to Gucci for me but yet this picture some how tells of the story why some one said "if you run optic's have folding sight's"
I do think even if there was a S&B on there I still would run folding irons.

Theoretically - if you use iron sight you want the iron sight attached to the barrel. If the barrel moves, the front site moves with it. It is pretty stupid to attach the front sight to something else other than the barrel itself, if you actually use the iron sight at Camp Perry.

However, how many people actually use iron sight? The "sight on rail" arrangement makes sense if you have cool gadgets like clip on therm, or wanting to mount laser at 12. For most applications other than camp perry, it is good enough. Many people like to grip their rifles as far as possible, so the fix FSBs got in the way as well.
