Do you respect your firearms gentlemen ? Or your self ? Or another s ?
Almost , think of that - ALMOST every used handguns I'm buying is DIRTY and needs good care .( I'm not talking about CGN only of course ).Maybe my request is too high , but it is hand guns not a used condo..s .
I would feel a shame if somebody can say - this guy send me a 'dirty ' handgun.
Am I wrong ?

I think this is normal. I have only sold a few guns but each one I cleaned very thoroughly before selling but all used guns I have purchased (through here or at stores) have been filthy. Clean or dirty, the first thing I do when I buy a gun anyway is clean it so I guess it doesn't matter. It's more an annoyance than anything, but it does make me question how well the gun was treated by the previous owner if they didn't bother to clean it before selling it.

meh,,,

5000 rounds in my 10/22 never took it appart yet. just ran some carb cleaner then a few sprays of CLP...

500 rounds thru my .45 and I havent even cleaned it.

My Mossy500 as seen carb cleaner thats it...

the only thing I will try to clean is my TT33 when I shoot corrosive... Spray it down with WD40 and dump the whole gun in the ammo cam full of clp... so its not really cleaning it...

Do you take your engine appart everytime you start it....

Waste of time...

Hmm..very interesting topic. wasn't it is a good conduct to clean and lub the gun before ship to your buyer? Anyhow I bought two used gun from very reputable dealer in Ontario. Both gun came spotless, sparky clean. Very happy. A good cleaned gun will look after you years after years.

Because they are tools, people treat them like tools. Unfortunatly... It's definately the minority that care for their tools/firearms as required. Cars are the same I suppose

I make it a rule to clean my guns everytime I shoot. Full take down, whether I want to or not.

vehicles are another people don't seem to care running into the ground. And, like a gun, its all good till you really need it

All of my guns are always kept very clean. I have bought a lot of used guns that were absolutely filthy. I think keeping your gun clean is a good way to protect your "investment", and keep it shooting reliably and accurately.

I clean mine after ever session at the range! I don't like leaving them dirty, they smell, feel gummy, and just don't look as nice until they are cleaned up real nice.

My p226 is my favourite to clean as the finish is so smooth it was just meant to be kept pristine

You're wrong...a handgun is a tool, they get dirty, usually being shot...doesn't stop them from functioning.

You see, we live in a world where some people use their firearms, instead of others who just lock them in a safe and occasionally fondle them....

I clean thoroughly every time after i fire it... maybe its because i respect my property, or because i dont want failures who knows. its just habit and it means i get to spend a little more time with my guns

this guy is out to lunch

Absolutely not. I run em hard and put em away wet. They get cleaned at my convenience after many rounds and multiple range sessions. I was shooting enough for a while i would have cleaned my gun 200 times a year if it got cleaned every time i shot it. Sadly i can't afford that any more:(

Some guns are more tolerant of dirt than others.
So are some shooters.:D

It's not very important, if a person is simply making holes in the backstop.

However, if a person's life might depend on the reliable functioning of the firearm.
That person might re-evaluate the importance of keeping his/her firearm clean.

Just sayin' Eh!

As soon as I know one of my guns is sold I almost feel inclined to clean it and get it ready for it's new customer.
When you buy a used car, is it not usually cleaned? ( yes I know it is not a frickin used car!)

Overzealous cleaning can do more damage than good, grit on the cleaning rag can scratch the finish. It is like cleaning a car and scratching the paint. I saw a Rolls Royce that was cleaned so much most of the chrome was gone from the radiator...looked like hell. I like to get the powder residue out of the action and off the surface of the gun but don't go much beyond that.
