I've been trying to shoot scoped rifles with both eyes open for most of my adult life, and i can't seem to master it. I'm just curious as to how many out there can actually do it. When the first Aimpoints came out, you had to shoot with both eyes open, and i was never able to use one. Seems my eyes don't focus properly.

Both open, but I'm not sure I have a dominant eye.

Y'know when they tell you to hold up a finger and look at something? I just see two fingers.

I said "It depends" since I only use 1 eye with magnified glass. If the sight is a red dot, reflex or ACOG type with no magnification, I open both eyes.

Voted YES
I have a very dominant right eye and can leave both open with a scope. For me it works well and the left eye image still helps, particularly for a quick or running ahot.

But at what distances are you shooting and at what power is your scope on? There is NO way having two eyes open is going to help you at anything beyond maybe 3 or 400 yds, especially if you are zoomed in.

The OP did not specify what ranges he is shooting at.

The only time I use two eyes open is when I’m shooting my 10.5" LMT in a CQB scenario with my 4x32 ACOG. Even at 100 yds I close one eye.

Good question myself left closed that is how I was trained in the military with a night vision scope, open sights also.

Both.

4x or lower on the .22 while hunting, they are both open.

Any bullseye/target shooting, one closed.

and obviously both open using Red Dot sights.

^^ You guys are probably just shooting (or hunting) out to 50 yds or so, right? Thought so.

If you are shooting at any real distances you would have to close your eye as it is unfocused and useless, while your other eye acquires the target through the scope. Sure, leave it open if you want but it is not doing anything useful.

I had that problem when I was a kid. Then at 15 I discovered Newcastle Brown Ale. Everything since has been a blur. :D

When i start shooting a a natural lefty, i use to shoot one eye closed but after a motorcycle accident i lost my left trigger finger, so i had to learn to shoot righty and since my right eye was so dominant i always did shot with both eyes open since that day... JP.

Range practice or hunting , any distance no matter what. Both eyes open.Just my routine, don't even notice that I do it.

No. Fixed 4x on my .22 and usually shoot out to 100 yards with both eyes open.

Definitely both eyes open if 'm using it for Bunny/Partridge/Groundhog so I can track the critter easier No idea on those ranges, but probably 25 to 60 yards.

I voted sometimes. Scoped rifle within 100ish meters, both eyes open. RedDot, both eyes open. For some reason though, I having a very hard time keeping both eyes open with a handgun. I'm working on it but it's tough.

Anyone have suggestions or tips on HG shooting with both eyes open, please PM me.

Eric
