if you have trouble keeping both eyes ope, cut out a peice of semi opaque plastic or something so that you can put it on your scope and partially blank out your off eye (kina like an eypathc for your scope) it lets you keep the off eye open, but still receiving light, and the plain plastic wont give you that double image effect you get with out it.

I get a better follow through, and see more clearly through the scope eye when I keep both open. Closing one, closes the other to some degree. If I keep them both open, I'm more likely to see the hit. I'm talking about conventional scopes, like 3-9x sort.

But at what distances are you shooting and at what power is your scope on? There is NO way having two eyes open is going to help you at anything beyond maybe 3 or 400 yds, especially if you are zoomed in.

If you have one eye closed then eventually your whole face may begin to twitch, causing you to be less accurate. For most people, the facial muscles are more relaxed with both open.

You and me both. I think I'm going to get some special glasses someday.

You could get a set with a flip up cover over the left eye piece, or just practice at the range with a set of glasses that have the left side blacked out to see if you can incrementally work up to not needing them. You may try closing your left eye only half way to see if that helps.

this is the EXACT reason why i started shooting with both eyes open... my cheek would start to twitch and shake the stock lol... it only took a few min to get good at it... now i shoot that way 99% of the time... the only time i ever close one eye is if there is something thats distracting me lol...

Eyes open

Till I was trianed in longrange and tactical I closed one eye but it is not the correct way to shoot ...There are exceptions though Iam also an optician and I think it maybe possible you are shooting from your weak eye one eye follows the other if you point your finger at an object in the distance with both eyes open, then alternate closing one eye your finger will move off the object when you are using your weak eye another reason for shooting with your eyes both eys open

there is a blinder out there to attach to your scope closing one closes the other slightly reducing light.. i was also told that closing one eye will also change the pupil size on the other eye.

Scope with both eyes open

Yes, I do as my right eye is very strongly my master eye, Even now with my cataracs fixed, best sight of my life, left eye testing 20/20 and right about 20/25-30, I find that when reading with a pair of weak granny glasses, about 2.0, I find my left eye going lazy because of the dominance of the right.

Both open.
There is evidence to support the fact that light entering the other eye assists the sighting eye see clearly, and define better.
Even at 36X, one can shoot with both eyes open successfully.

I said both because keeping both eyes open makes centering the reticle very easy when shooting in any position that is not bench rest. With both eyes open you can see your target down range, then all it takes to find the target in your scope is to follow you non-dominant eye.

Only if I can put something on my glasses to block out sight in my left eye. I'm left eye dominant it's hard enough to shoot with one eye closed. With both I don't think I could.

When I go back to the Military Training I had the principals of marksmanship the fist rule was to close the disengaged eye. A buddy of mine who went to Afghanistan told me it happens way to quick there and you gotta keep both eyes open??
