Do you sort brass?

Just wondering how important, if at all, to sort brass, once fired, twice fired and so on. I reload 9mm, 357, 38, 45, 223. I use all for plinking, no competition or hunting. I am getting too many containers of brass, maybe I can put them all together sorted by caliber instead?

For these calibers, for plinking, don't bother sorting. Just make sure your brass is in good condition.

for pistol if the case is in good shape I don't mind at all. distances out to 25 yards, unless you are trying to make a single hole for some reason, no sorting. Just inspection. For rifle I tend to be more picky. I have a bag of mixed range brass and brass from single boxes I tried to see how they perform. But for the most part I use one case for the most consistency. To go past that, there are people who weigh them too - but this type of care is only needed for shooting out past 3-400 yards.

For what you are doing, if you are getting the accuracy you want, why put the extra time into it for no desirable gain?

I'll load 100 mixed cases for friends to try, and new shooters, and save my preferred cases for me, my bolt action and my 'group therapy'.

No need to sort for those calibres unless (as has been suggested) you are going for extreme accuracy. Also, if you are trying to push the pressure limits with MAX loads, it would be wise to stick with one brand of brass so that the case volume remains constant.

I sort for all just out of interest and log if any results..

I'm retired with nothing to do and all day to do it, so I sort all my cases for uniformity. But it matters little for 25 yard or less pistol cases and most .223 cases are very close in case capacity for practice plinking ammo at 100 yards or less. And if you have chronologically gifted eyesight and drink too much coffee no amount of case prep helps.

I don't bother sorting brass, either I load it or toss it when I am reloading.

The only thing I sort for pistol is large and small primer 45ACP and throw away Sumbro brass of any calibre.
For 45 and 38 Spl I also hold the S&B brass for if/when I have time to swage/ream the primer pockets. S&B has tight primer pocket side walls with no bevel.

223 I need to sort to find anything crimped so it can be processed further after depriming.

I sort always for competition rifle.There is a lot of factors that come into play.

hand gun i don't care about sorting unless its a match quality gun.. rifle i assign a batch of new brass that stays with the same rifle. when it starts to neck spit or the pockets start to loosen i toss the whole batch and start with a another batch of full prep new brass.

I sort all by headstamp and with rifle brass, I do a full prep including annealing. For match brass, I try to keep them sorted by number of reloads too, but it can be challenging.
There is only so much OCD...
