Went to Wholesale Sports in Saskatoon to price out loading components for trap loads. They also carry a variety of trap loads by Winchester and Remington (1 1/8 oz @ 1200 fps) average box is $7.99. Winchester is a little cheeper. They had one 25lb bag of lead #7.5 shot from a B.C. company priced at $49.00.. Did a little figuring and I'll save .83 cents per 25 to load my own 1 ounce loads. Is it worth sitting at my press - I cant see it. What do you think?

I haven't bought a bag of lead in about 18 months now. Loaded ammo was very reasonable, and is just now starting to catch up to 'bagged lead' prices. If things continue in this matter I may get back to reloading.

I had a press, several HEAVY bags of lead shot, hundreds of primers, husks and 8 lbs of powder given to me but I have no idea how it works!
I'd like to try but I don't even know where to start.

A friend of mine got all fired up to start loading steel shot loads.
He bought a lot of equipment, spent quite a bit, now he cannot find steel components locally.

trap loads

I have not loaded a clay target load for two years. Not much savings in it.
I have been buying Fedral Top Guns for around $5 a box., few of us we get together and buy a skid of them. 120 cases, what we don't want our gun club will sell

The gap in price between good reloads and "promo" target ammo has narrowed recently, but personally, I still reload, and far prefer my reloads over
the promo target ammo. By buying in bulk, i.e., a half ton or ton of shot at a time, wads by the case (5000) primers by the sleeve (5000) and powder in 8 lb. containers, there is some savings for the high volume shooter - particularly if you have a good supply of quality once fired empties on hand, When it's a competitive shoot however, it's generally factory stuff by choice.

In spite of the lack of savings, I started loading again, because I just can not find any readily available 7/8 oz. 12 gauge. I have just learned of a source for Kent International loads. If that comes through, I'll probably drop the loading again.

The M T Chambers shot is only avail. at WSS in 'Toon, when it is avail. it is $30, people buy the whole supply at once, shipping to other WSS is too exp.

All my duck & goose loads were reloaded when lead was legal. Since then, it's hardly worth it for target loads. Steel is even not too bad in price.

I can still get 25lbs of homemade shot #8 or #71/2 for $22 per 25lbs. That with the cost of the other components and the fact that I have about 50000 winchester AA hulls not to mention Federal, I would not be able to as much as I do if I did not reload.

Using the reloading calculator off trapshoots web site I am relaoding my
1 1/8 oz loads for $3.50 per box and my 1oz loads for $3.25 per box. The cheapest factory stuff I can get is Winchester Super X ?? which sells for $55 per flat. I am saving $2+ per box.

Even if I got my supplies in BC I would still be saving over a dollar a box. Thats a savings of about $200+ per PITA season. I don't know but that is significant to me.

I have a MEC 9000 hydraulic press so I can reload about 200 shells per hour being carefull.

I think reloading allows me to make better loads as well ??

Yes I still reload. Yes it does cost more than factory ammo. I just enjoy reloading. I enjoy the quiet time and also the times when my 9 year old son helps.
