Do you take an alternate gun for big game?

Some take a "backup gun". I take an alternate.
That is, every rifle I take hunting WILL be used. It's not there for backup, but rather for a change.
For example, I may take three rifles, or even a shotgun deer hunting.
I've never taken one home that hasn't been out hunting at least one day.

So, are you a one gun hunter?

I've used the 30-30, the 338WM, the 270, the 30-06, 303Br, 45-70, 6.5X55, 44-40, 38-40, 308 win, 243, 12 gauge ... in various combinations to take to camp. Usually three per year.
I use certain guns for certain things. Bolt guns are typically guns for long range apps, lever guns short to medium, and on the rare occasion I take the shotgun, obviously, it's a thick brush short range thing.
I use open sighted lever guns generally, for pushing deer, or crappy weather.
I even take the crossbow along if I'm going up pre-gun season, and bow season is open, or for if I'm staying on a few days after the rifle season.

the area i am hunting dictates the gun I am going to use. Be it a shotgun, lever (now that I bought one) or a scoped bolt.

Pretty sure most hunters do..even if it is a .22 or? for grouse.:D And as for too big gamr rifles ..sure why not < different strokes for different folks>

We usually have an extra rifle along just in case one of our buddies accidentally rams into one of us and bends his gun scabbard 180 degrees the other way and ends up beiing off 2 feet at 100 yds.:kickInTheNuts:

Usually just a backup rifle, but alternate shotguns (depending on my mood) for those partridge walks when not chasing the moose.

Main rifle and alternate if going remote. If not remote then main rifle and 2 or 3 alternates depending on my mood and the hunting conditions..

Always - usually extras.

We usually go out only for the day but I always keep extra guns handy. Just this past season, one of my buddies guns was off (scope got knocked around) so he took one of my rifles (scoped Win 94 IIRC) and we continued on. He is now looking for a backup gun for next season, just in case. If we are travelling (and we have plans to head up north next season), you can better that guns will outnumber people at least 3 to 1 (though I might push that ratio a bit ;) ).

My main rifle is scoped (most of the time). A 7mm Dakota I swear by or a 375 H&H. But without fail my 'backup' will have iron sights. Just in case weather goes out or equipment takes a major knock. I lent a 6.5x55 husky with a 4.5-12 burris scope to a family member that I guided in Alberta who missed a deer at 50 yds TOPS! He still thinks I set him up! That rifle took a hit in the truck as best as I can figure, in the case & behind the seat. It made for great fun at his expense but now I have to sleep with one eye open at camp...;)

I always take a backup to camp. My 280 Remington will go on any hunt away from home, and be ready in case something happens to one of my other rifles.

I live in a good hunting area I can hunting within 5 minutes of being off work. Most of my hunting is close to home(within 30 km)so I don't normally bring a back-up.If I'm camping and hunting I'll bring an extra.I grab ussually 1 of 2 guns,my ruger 30-06 or my 300 sav 99.Either one would work fine for the hunting I do.The Ruger probally goes 75% of the time because it's scoped.I just got a 308 99F that will be scoped so I can see the Ruger spending more time in the safe this coming hunting season. My poor 30-30 94 never gets to see any bush time anymore, maybe I'll sell it.
