Do you think the T97 plus the t97.ca upgrade worth the non-registered price tag?

Honestly, the non-restricted T97 came across my mind a few times because of its price and non-restricted status. Not that I am worry about restricted as I have a few pistols myself already... but the fact that I can go to a store pay for it and walk right out with it like my JRC just always seems better to me. Plus no waiting for them to mail it to me or have to go pick it up again etc etc. After going over all the reviews and etc I still didn't wanna get a T97 because of the trigger, features and etc. The t97.ca upgrades, however, seems to solve a lot of my concerns right now (of course I have to really see how it performs). But the price tag then is another matter. If getting both FTU and the lower it will gonna add another 700-ish after tax. Say even I get the xmas discount at $7xx for the T97 NSR we are talking about a $1500/1600 rifle when the dust settles. With that money I can get a slightly better entry level AR15 or may be the most basic AR with an aftermarket trigger upgrade. Or get something like SU-16?

I don't have a 223/556 but I shot my friend's AR a few times. Actually another thing that I heard is that for the T97 you can keep it at factory gas tube setting to turn it into a bolt action only gun? Yeah I know it is not gonna be even remotely close to accurate as a bolt action but hey more options never hurts eh? (actually come to think of it... it is completely pointless to the bao so nvm lol)

Anyone thinking/thought about the same thing? Or you've already been down this road can share your opinion or experience? I don't commit to anything at least until summer 2017 so I will have a lot of time to think things over.

Waste of money IMHO, especially with Tavor prices on the EE under 2K

I had a T97 for about a week. It was an absolute POS. I couldn't sell it fast enough.
 
agreed, I bid for a nearly new 2.5 tav (with buis)for under 2K on EE but I was a bit late. Some lucky bastard bought it. heh

With the first run of 2013 rifles that was a problem, but I've owned two, a 14 and a 15, and have three friends with one and these problems have never come up. Magwell as-is will take the steel/aluminum STANAGs they were designed for. With about 10 minutes of taking a file to widen the mag well's "spine" they'll take everything else as well, PMAGs, Lancers, IMIs, etc. Like the M305s and 1911s, they might benefit from some "tuning" like that.

HOWEVER

we are talking about a $1500/1600 rifle when the dust settles.

The Tavor is a MUCH better rifle and I suspect you'll see piles of them on the EE in the near future as people move to the X95. A T97 is really only worth it's stock price. They're light, small, simple and fun to shoot but they're not something worth pouring that kind of money into.
 
the military T95 has standard good mag release and trigger, but the downgraded the export version T97 with a strange release button, accessories is no way to be added for a stock upper, however I think it is recoil is better than the AR
 
No way 400 more you get what the Israelites use for real life battle. I in all honestly really liked my t97 but it wasn't near the quality of the tavor and it also wasn't a hacked up not from factory creation. I think we are seeing the bottom out of tavor rifles I don't think the same can be said of the t97 as there is the possibility of a new iteration soon whatever happened to the Canada ammo vapour wear. For the record my t97 ran great and was accurate to boot. The stock irons left a lot to be desired as did the controls. Each to there own I guess 400 can almost get you an aim point and almost 1000 rounds things to think about
 
I have seen a couple Tavors going for $1850 used lately, and a number of them between $1850 and $2200. With that in mind I can not fathom doing the T97.ca upgrades and still having a rifle that is so much more inferior to the Tavor for not that big of a difference in cost.
 
own two t97's one bone stock the other with all the goodies. No real issues even though both rifles have 1000's of rounds down range. light and handy. What else do you need?

Warranty and parts supoort would be a couple things that come to mind.

Spending $1500 on a made in China pos with no support of any kind just seems silly. Sure some people haven't had their rifle blow up and some will actually accept STANAG pattern magazines without modifications but that's the few not the many.
When these were first announced at $800 new I was interested but then I got to shoot one and realized the factory irons while useable were still junk and adding an optic to it means another $400+ for the FTU and you still have an optic that's too high for a nice solid cheek weld.
If you just want a disposable rifle for less than most non restricted rifles go for it but no matter what you bolt to it the T97 will always be a poorly built chinese rifle with no support.
Considering you can buy a quality rifle like a used Tavor for only a few hundred more I'm surprised anyone still considers these an option.
 
My answer might come across as smart ass: I had a chance to buy a NR T97 in good condition for $600 recently and I thought the price was too high.

As you're open to buying an AR-15, buy a Windham Weaponry AR -- an excellent entry-level rifle -- if you really want to shoot .223/5.56. The SU-16 is a piece of garbage and I recommend Norinco rifles for use as clubs, not firearms. I hate bull-pups but if that floats your boat, wait for the used Tavors to start hitting the EE when everyone moves to the X95
 
Not a bullpup fan but after owning a T97 and firing a Tavor, if you really have a hard on for a NR bullpup, save your dollars and get the Tavor.
I don't like either of them at all but would get a Tavor off the EE and save a lot of cash plus disappointment in the T97.
