When I get a new tin I sort them by weight. I normally use corsman pellets and get three groups, 1.0g, 0.9g and 0.8g...just wondering if I am the only one that does this.

cheers,

If you shoot competitively in such disciplines as ISSF (10M rifle or pistol), or Field Target (rifle or pistol), weighing your pellets may make a difference - particularly in FT where the maximum range is at 55 yards. That said, I know of many such competitors that do not weigh or otherwise sort their pellets and manage to post very respectable scores on a consistent basis.

I regularly compete in FT, and I do not sort my pellets by weight or any other criteria. At a match a couple weeks ago, I posted a clean match - 48/48. Typically, I only drop one or two points per match, such as last weekend, when I posted a 58/60 for a 1st place finish. Is the potential there to post a better score IF I weighed my pellets? I think that anyone would have a tough time convincing me of that.

For some folks, weighing and sorting pellets instills confidence, and if that works for you, great - but - in the end, spending more trigger time with your gun and learning it's nuances is a far greater benefit to your scores, and a lot more fun to boot. Perhaps in years past, there may have been a benefit to sorting pellets for a match, but I believe that with today's QC standards, any quality pellet should be good to go right out of the tin.

As always, YMMV.
