Do your M&P mags drop out on their own when you release them?

They should almost shoot out. They use the spring in the mag to do this. Maybe your mag is gunked up inside with carbon and fouling. I always lube and clean my mags every thousand rounds.

This is exactly the reason why mags don't drop out.

Happens a lot with the new followers stamped with the number 9. At least now know how to fix the problem.

Hard to say if it's the follower or the slide stop that's the issue. The slide stop on my Pro Series engages or sits on the follower a lot more than yours does. I have mags with Gen 1 and Gen 2 followers the slide stop sits in the same place. Never anywhere near the side of the follower to cause it from dropping free.

It's not the follower causing the problem. There is enough plenty of pressure on the follower to release the mags, and cause the slide to lock back, but due to friction the mags get hung up in the handle after partially falling out.

Not sure what all the panic was with the warning with the dremel. Sounds like a lot of hamfisted people using them inappropriately. I've done far more detailed work with rotary tools before (requiring a micrometer in between sessions of removing thousandths of an inch). Almost found it funny that people were so worried. Anyways, used a miniature sanding drum on a rotary tool with a low speed setting to prevent heat build up to remove "bulk", then finished with fine grit sand paper by hand to "smooth". All 4 drop out as intended now. Woo!

Thanks for the suggestions and warnings (even if unnecessary).

I have an issue with my mags dropping out when I switch the mag release to be on the right side of the gun (because I am a lefty). The mag seems to misalign where the follower contacts the internals of the gun causing there to be little to no spring. Has anyone seen this? M&P 40, brand new.

I was having an issue with my m&p9 pro. It would shoot the mags out when I first got it. I the. Made a kydex holster for it which involved hot kydex and a lot of pressure from the press I used to form it. After making the holster the mags would not drop free, I would have to pull them out. I lubed up the mag release and the mags started to shoot out again.
