Hi Guys,

I've been shooting for a while, but only started hunting last year, so cut me some slack if this is a stupid question

How many whitetail does (Dos, Dowes, D-Oh's???) would you expect to see for every buck?

I've been out a few days so far this month. Seen a grand total of 7 does, either singles or pairs, haven't seen any bucks

Now, I should say that some of these sightings were pretty fast affairs, but I made a point of looking for antlers and haven't seen any. So, if they weren't does they were definitely 'antlerless'

I see rubs and scrapes in my spots - so I know the bucks are there somewhere.

Am I doing something wrong or is this just kinda the way it goes?

I am hunting about 150 km east of Edmonton on leased crown land if that makes a difference.

Thanks for your thoughts

Its full moon right now so the deer tend to come out later I have seen zero deer between 3pm-5:30pm but I've seen a bunch crossing into a corn field on my walk home after legal light. The end of next week should be good as there should be next to no moon in the sky which means the deer will start heading out of the woods a bit earlier. If the rut was on you could see a mature buck any time of the day that seems to be the only time the big boys screw up.

Your in the field, your seeing deer, you'll eventually see a buck! In my experience, I've seen many many more does than bucks... That being said, I've been in my treestand just a few minutes, & seen a buck... Bang, season over!

Good luck!

This is just my 3rd year deer hunting. 1st year about my second time out first deer I see is a nice 10 point buck. Walked by me at about 10 yards stopping every two steps to piss on his legs. I had numerous opportunities to shoot him but guess what....no buck tag! My 15 (at the time) year old son had used it up just a couple of days before. The rest of that year all I saw was does.

Last year I shot 3 does. The only buck I saw when I was hunting is one that my son shot at and missed from his stand about 100 yards away.

This year. First time out 5 point buck at about 30 yards. He's now in my freezer.

After last year I was starting to wonder if I would ever get a shot at a buck.

They're out there. We got some nice pics on the trail cam just never during legal shooting times.

seems that the Bucks are scarce the last two years. We had one buck out of 12 deer, over two years. Good news is saw a big buck get pushed onto our property from a Ministry bush. Nice even rack, im guessing 8 to 10 pointer.

In my area and up until last week I have been seeing mostly does, the smart bucks have been staying deep into the bush. They have been moving nocturnal on the trail cameras. They are in the rut right now it seems I am seeing just bucks during the day, looking for some action :) I guess.

There are a lot more bucks than you think. I have had my trailcams out for a few months now and you would be surprised how many different bucks that I have pics of during the night. They just don't want to come out during legal shooting hours.
