Does a 300.00 rifle, 600.00 scope, Pics and video...

Turn your question around a bit.... "Does a $600 dollar scope deserve a $300. dollar rifle"??? I would say it depends on the performace of the rifle, and what please's you. If your happy, we all are to.

A $300 rifle can be tweaked and improved, built on, accurized, adjusted and personalized. It may outshoot rifles costing many times more right out of the box. Its quite easy to blink and find that an ordinary rifle has morphed into a $2000 build.

A scope isn't ever going to be one bit better than the day you got it.Once you've learned to appreciate higher quality optics its very hard to go backwards. That can easily mean that a $300, $1000 and $2000 rifle in the same cabinet will end up wearing the same model and make of scope.

Over the life of a scope, one with precise, repeatable adjustments will often make back its slightly higher cost in saved sighting in ammo. I cringe when I see people burn box after box of expensive factory ammo trying to sight in a $100 scope.

I have found an excellent compromise between value and quality in a Cabela's Euro scope. They are made by meopta and I believe are Czech mil spec. Very fine reticle lines available in a variety of configurations. Really bright too. I believe in putting on quality glass, I mean really, we're hunting all day for about 20 minutes...10 minutes of shooting light in the morning and 10 minutes at dusk...might as well have the right tool.

Sure. My 223 axis is wearing a 4-16x50 vortex viper hs. $320 rifle with crap scope and the vortex was $589. My other axis 30-06 has a bushnell 3200 elite 4-12x50 that scope was 4450 or something when I picked it up

What an odd question.

There is more to the value of something then it's retail value.

If you like your $300 rifle and your $600 scope go ahead and use them together.

But if it bugs you then buy a cheaper scope or a more expensive rifle... Which will problably work as well minus a few bells and whistles anyway.

Yes.

The problem is that people look at a scope as an accessory for the rifle...but in my world the rifle is just something to go under the scope :)

There are guys here that "never sell a rifle", I never sell a scope...there's always another gun that it will fit.

Thats the Right Way. Calibers, actions, manufacturers... all things you may want to change but if have a a good scope can continue to use it.

The price of the rifle should not affect how much you are willing to put into your scope.

I've got a Stevens 200 in 300 win mag that honestly shoots close to 5/8" consistently, and that silly rifle deserves top end glass. The Savage you are talking about may be exactly the same.

For say a Stevens 200, Savage Axis or Savage 11 etc sporter type rifle I'd put a Bushnell 3200 or Leupold VXII 2-7 or 3-9 on it any day.

If it was a heavy barrel target type Savage rifle yeah I'd go a Leupold VXIII 6.5-20 target type scope etc without question.

I agree 100% but it may not shoot MOA.... not for the scope .....only that the gun may not be capable.

Not not MOA but with a scope my M4 smoothbore is giving me 4 inch or so at 200 feets with 3 inch Rem 7/8 ounce, pretty lethal if you ask... JP.

Maybe 1200.00 is a bit to much for an Axis but a Zeiss 3X9, a 6500 1.25X8X32 or a 3X9 3200 Bone collector are perfect and very clear... JP.

I love the axis platform and if it's shoots tiny groups then gosh darnit why doesn't deseve one of the above. If you have the funds it deseves it just as much as a custom gun that shoots tiny groups. DO IT!!! and don't forget the rings and bases

incase you were wondering and other will disagree but savage rules!!!!
