Does a 9mm pistol round have enough to drop a deer

My wife shoots a Browning X-bolt Micro Hunter. Perfectly sized for youth and ladies and comes in several calibers! Good luck.

10-4! Purdy darn hard to beat this might fine firearm! My youngest son just bought a brand new one, and today he bagged a real nice Buck with this beauty X-Bolt, in 7mm-08!

I'm sorry but you're comparing a Handi in 10Ga to these folks possibly getting one that shoots a handgun round up to perhaps .44Mag? There is simply NO basis for comparing the two. One will try to bust the shooter's collarbone while the other will be stout enough to make the shooter smile the first few times and to not even be noticed when shooting at an actual game animal.

Cdhunter, if you can find a Handi Rifle in .44Mag or a Rossi Winchester 92 clone in .44Mag you would have a great deer gun for the ladies to shoot that would be a great option out to as much as 100 yards or so. And if you fit the rifle with a Limbsaver or similar recoil pad none but the most recoil sensitive would in any way flinch at shooting such a setup.

For folks that do not shoot often a single shot break open has a manual of arms that is easy for most anyone to fathom. It doesn't take much to break, load, close then walk around stalking the game and to #### the hammer and fire. I can't imagine a system that is as inherently as safe.

A close second is the lever rifle. As long as they practice lowering the hammer to the safe "half ####" position or using the safety if there is one that's the only real trick to that style.

And Rossi DOES make 16 inch carbine barrelled options that are not only light to carry but short and handy in dense brush conditions.

And let's not forget the moderate recoil .30-30 cartridge from a lever Winchester 94 or Marlin 336. A classic deer cartridge shot from some VERY classic guns. And one that managed to fill freezers or cold rooms literally from the first year it was introduced. Again the rifles that shoot this round are not overly bulky or heavy. And the .30-30 is the sort of rifle round that would be fine for all but the most recoil sensitive folks out there.

true but i just talking about the weight difference vs a normal gun (lever, pump, ect)

remember its not just slipingmon the recoil pad its having the stock fited to the person with the recoil pad acounted for LOP wise

I know, I know....but I shouldered one of these a while back at the gun shop and it felt pretty good...
Takes care of the length of pull and 30-30 is something most people can get behind comfortably.

The ultimate in function over style, oh crap, those are mostly about style, now I'm confused. OK they're an ugly POS!

Super fugalicious for sure......but damn it felt better then it looks? I have no need for the collapsing stock as stock stocks fit me well but if a guy was looking for something with easy adjustments in 30-30 he could do worse!
Plus you can mount a frickin laser.....:p

The adjustable cheekpiece is not where it should be with a normal stock, that is the biggest issue with these abortions. If you actually hold the rifle properly your face ends up ahead of the cheek piece, unless of course you shoot like a girl that holds the rifle straight in front of her, and leans her head way back to aim, lol.

9mm from longer barrel isn't the same cartridge. There aren't loads developed for 9mm out of carbine length barrel. I tried and got something like 1600frs with 115 gr bullet, not too bad, would definitely take deer. But then, 357 SIG was so much more interesting, I remember getting 2200 fps with it. Same 9mm barrel re-chambered to new cartridge.

Considering the insanely low case volume, it could not hold enough of a slower burning powder to reach 1600 FPS with a 115 grain bullet, no matter the barrel length, without pressures way too high. I could be wrong, but if so I want to see the load data.

I didn't even notice the cheek weld piece and if it is adjustable or not.......holy ****....maybe I shoot like a girl!
I do tend towards a square stance as opposed to bladed so that might have something to do with it.

Here's some velocity/barrel length numbers with factory loads, looks like 1550 is about max for factory....

the whole 8 pages about ethics... How ethical is taking marginal shot with high power rifle? If not for that - what would you need higher power rifle for? Even slow 9mm bullet will mushroom to a bigger size than 338 lapua. I am confident 115 grainer will go through both lungs and a heart from 50 yards. How much more hunting ethics one want.

Be confident all you want, but you're still wrong. I've actually got the empirical evidence to say it won't work. You have...a keyboard?

Not to dis the OP, but with so many quality, low-priced hunting rifles, and quality used hunting rifles, in ethical calibres, why on earth would anybody take a 9mm hunting anything bigger than a squirrel?

What won't work? Quite a few officers chiming in but not a lot of details? I for one would love to hear about yours and others experiences.
I'm assuming that most officers are using duty guns with self defense type loads.....or have you tried shooting deer with harder non expanding bullets?

Hunting deer with a 9mm , when you have access to other tools is still "stunting" but I'd have to think that if it came down to it a guy with a 9mm carbine could put some meat on the table.

yep but these are the same type of people who frown on buckshot
