Does a expensive base make that much difference?

Can someone explain to me what the difference between a expensive 700 base compared to a inexpensive base. For instance the 29.99 UTG Model 700 Short Action Rifle Remington Scope Mount Weaver rail vs a Nightforce base?

If it makes a difference it will be for a 5R milspec in 308 with a Bushnell elite 4200 and Burris Xtreme Tactical Rings 1"

tolerances and quality.

Agreed

Think about it this way: the Quality Control on an expensive rings/base is very good, but on a cheaper one you might have a little "lean" to one side after you mount it and so you will need to use your scope's internal adjustments to fix it....if able. Plus your rings might be misaligned on a bad base so it can twist your scope....

Thanks guys, I dont want to twist my scope or anything like that so no cheap parts for me. You guys convinced me. This is my first venture into building a precision rifle so I want to make it the best that I can afford.

NEAR Manufacturing, Badger Ordnance, Alberta Tac. Rifle are a few companies that offer high quality bases & rings............

If you want to spend a little less, look at TPS bases and rings........

If you're buying a rail, why waste your money on a 0 moa? Get yourself a minimum of 20 moa and you'll be much better off. Warne seems to make decent stuff, don't know a whole lot about their bases though.

Honestly I dont know anything about bases. I just did enough research to buy the scope. I did a little research and heard alot people used and burris Xtreme tactical rings and were very happy with them. When it comes to bases I dont know a thing.

Most target/tactical scopes will have enough internal adjustment to allow you to use a 20 MOA base at short range. You'd then have the extra adjustment going the other way, to allow you to stretch out to longer ranges.

So I scrapped the Burris rings and picked up a set of leopold mk4 tactical 1 inch rings at the gunshow this morning for $40. I thought it was a smoking deal. So I am now still looking for a good base.

Don't knock on Burris, the Signature Zee rings with inserts are awesome, I use 'em on my expensive scopes along side Seekins rings ($150/set)

I am not knocking on burris at all. I heard they make quality rings and that was my original plan. I was actually planning on heading to Al Flaherty's this morning on the way home to grab a set of burris rings but found the leopolds at the gunshow that the vendor didnt know what he had. Luckily I was there with cash after I did a little research.

Farrell for steel bases and rings. As good as anything else on the market.

For alum, EGW is very good. Weaver Tactical is surprisingly good. Bench Source for Savage actions only - if you need to save a few ounces on a build.

Burris XTB 2pc steel bases are again, surprisingly good.

To put it gently, SPUHR is the best base for a precision rifle that you are spending cash on, in my opinion. Period.

Got it on both of my .50's now, and looking to put one on my .338LM shortly.

In short, built in bubble level, built in wedge to level the scope perfectly 100% of the time while mounting scope, one piece construction of superior quality to nearly all competitors, and superb design.

It has my highest reviews possible for a scope base. Others work great, don't get me wrong... but if you want the best, and are putting down serious time and cash into a precision rifle, look no further.
