Does a expensive base make that much difference?

To put it gently, NEAR is the best base for a precision rifle that you are spending cash on, in my opinion. Period.

Got it on both of my .50's now, and looking to put one on my .338LM shortly.

In short, built in bubble level, built in wedge to level the scope perfectly 100% of the time while mounting scope, one piece construction of superior quality to nearly all competitors, and superb design.

It has my highest reviews possible for a scope base. Others work great, don't get me wrong... but if you want the best, and are putting down serious time and cash into a precision rifle, look no further.

Isnt that a spuhr mount?

With a 0 MOA base, what is the farthest you can shoot? I am only looking at shooting 300 yards maybe up to 500 later on. At that distance is a 20 MOA base nessissary? I checked on the EGW mount and it is right in my price range until I found out it was $36 shipping so basically almost $120 by the time its at my door. I dont know how something so small would cost $36 for shipping. I can ship a gun to BC for less than that. Maybe im just cheap.

What do you guys think about the Milcun 20MOA scope base?

I chose NEAR over a spuhr mount, for two main reasons.

1. the Near mount is made of stainless steel and the spuhr mount is made from aluminium. making it MUCH MUCH harder to ever strip a screw and ruin the mount.
2. Near is a Canadian company!!!!!!!!! they are manufactured in Camrose Alberta.

My Alphamount is a work of art.

it depends on how much elevation your scope has.

a cheap base can make a huge difference from shot to shot, a good base not so much, your choice. cheap if you want variety, expensive if you want consistency.

IMHO the mega bucks high end bases are not needed. As others stated EGW and weaver are great for aluminum bases, they run around 50 bucks. Doesn't make a difference for accuracy if your base is 50 or 200 dollars.. I just shot my best ever groups last week with a EGW base installed. (three groups under .25 moa, one at .38moa, at 200 yards) Just don't go and put any tasco or NC star junk on your gun and your fine.

If you want/need steel bases you will pay a little more.

Talk to Jerry at Mystic Precision, he knows about the proper cost/performance ratio.
