I'm wondering if anyone here can help me sort out my options for a new deer rifle. I'm looking for something that has all of the following:

-left handed
-long calibre (probably .270 or .308)
-nice walnut stock (not into the synthetic)
-under $800 or so

When I first started shopping I wouldn't have thought this would be a difficult order, but I haven't been able to find much with that combination. Any ideas?

.308 is better in a short action. Did you mean 30/06?

I didn't, but I wouldn't be adverse to it. I'm mostly just looking to keep the cartridge buying down, there are already several 270s and 308s around home, just thought I'd rather not bother having to stock a 3rd. Never had a proper left handed gun before, that's why I'm looking.

On the Savage website you'll find their Hunter series models include 11 (short action, incl. .308) and 111 (long action, incl. .270 and 30.06) with "walnut finished" hardwood stocks. 11GL and 111GL are left-handed actions. Suggested retail is $555.00. I haven't checked any Canadian retailers for actual prices but comparing Savage's suggested retail on other models with actual prices I have seen, I would expect you could find a GL under $800.

Appreciate the help guys! Might have to make my way down to SIR or Wholesale later on today and have a bit of a look.

Might I suggest a Ruger no1 for a lefty, in point of fact the Ruger no1 is the only mass produced modern manufactured rifle that appeals to me.

If they were still being manufactured, I would suggest a LH 788 Remington in 308.
Other than parts, the only thing I do not like about mine, is that my rifle chamber is not 7.62 NATO friendly. But as I am a reloader now, not a big deal to me. For the non-reloader who likes off-season practice, this is one negative point about this accurate rifle.

Maybe look for a Savage bolt action or a used Ruger 77?

You can get a left handed Ruger M77 MKII for about that money with a walnut stock; I have one in 30-06 and it shoots amazingly. I considered selling it to buy a stainless gun, but it shoots well enugh that it is hard to give it up.

As for the No 1; I have had two, and I still have one. The No1V in 22-250 I had shot 3/4" goups all day long at 100 yards with factory ammo; I had a handload that shot less than 1/2". I now have a No1H stainless in 375 H&H that shoots 3 shots to less than 1" @ 100 yards; I cannot ask more of it than that. You would do much worse than a No1; IIRC someone has one for sale in the EE in 270.

I've seen left hand Remington CDL's for $875.00.

Pretty nice looking gun for the money. The CDL's seem to have a better handle on quality control than the lesser Remingtons.

The Savage rifles are accurate and are cheaper...but they look like chit!

Have your dealer ask Stoeger Canada if the Tikka T3 LH is available in their delux model as shown here. Their delux models have a very nice walnut stock and should be available for $900 to $1000. Very accurate with a slick bolt. If the LH is available in the delux model this would be my choice.

All these are in stock, just pick one and give them a call. I would go with a Remington CDL myself or maybe the Ruger K77RBZ MK

Let us know what you pick.

I got a Ruger 77mkII ss leftie 30-06 that shoots quite well thanks from WS-at the time they were the only place in Canada that had them. I also have a No 1 in 223 that shoots real well with cheap ammo and am about to start reloading cuz brass is real easy to come by. Seems there were lots of ammo choices for the 77 when I bought it 2 years ago and there seem to be lots more now. CZ makes lefties too- just bought a 22lr CZ452 and it is sweet. I pack the 30-06 and have a Savage 99c 308 to back up. Good luck with your choice.

I've got a big decision ahead of me. I think this will end up being a post-Christmas present to myself. Should give me lots of time to get used to it at the range before next season.

Hi GB1, I just popped over from the other lefty thread.

I have to tell you that I bought a Browning ABolt Micro Hunter in .243 from another member here a couple years ago. It is by far my favorite rifle and to me it is a better feeling rifle than most others than I have handled. It shoots well (under 1 MOA when I do my part.) The bolt is extremely slick and locks up very tight. I like this rifle so much that a Browning would definitely be at the top of my list for my next rifle if I was looking to pay for a quality.

My only complaint with the Browning (and it's not really a complaint, just something I find weird) is the magazine. The hinged floor plate tips out and then the removable magazine clips into that before being swung back in to the mag well. Better than a box mag and keeps everything clean. It's just one small extra step to load.

FYI. The member I bought my rifle from was named Tick and a few weeks ago he sold off a Remington 700 in 7mm. Perhaps he has other lefties for sale.

Good options list Bronco, but a Medallion in LH will run you $860 and up, the Hunter is likely what you meant.

As for Brownings, I still believe they are a good buy if you don't want to #### around with floating and bedding and all that finicky stuff. They just shoot well.

ps. You get used to the goofy magazine, unless you are a dedicated road hunter, in which case you will hate it.

Cheers.
