Boy, thats a step backwards isn't it :p :D

I'm not from ONT and have never hunted there, but usually when switching provinces you just need to go to a license issuer or government agent and sign a declaration that you have completed a hunting education program, somewhere, before. I would be suprized if it was any harder than that, but it is Ontario.

i feel its backwards to and i the websites are wow confusing and the prices to hunt their make a richman poor trying to hunt

Too bad most people lump the rest of Ontario with the GTA. Maritimers do it too.

The farther away you get, the better it is. I love Northern Ontario. :)

.

Contact the MNR in what ever city you move to. They will help you out. I just moved from Ontario to BC and had problems. I contacted the MNR back east they helped me out so I did not have to re write the exam.
They can help

Don

It's $35 for a resident bear, moose or deer tag in Ontario. How much do non-LEH tags cost in BC? I thought our tag prices were about the same as the other Provinces.

No, but I buy deer, bear and smallgame liscenses every year, so that adds up to just about 100 $ with taxes and everything.

Rather spend that on ammo, gas...

You have to be kidding!

Yes, Ontario is messed up.

This doesn't look good for you (but you could challenge the exam)
page 14 http://publicdocs.mnr.gov.on.ca/View.asp?Document_ID=10687&Attachment_ID=20510

What a joke! So your "other province license" means your competent enough to hunt there as a non-res. but it is not good enough if you want to be a res. hunter.

Well BCbb, you had this right ......:bangHead:

Why don't you just stop in AB on your way through, lots of work, plenty of game, and all you do is tick a box on your WIN card application and you're hunting! Welcome to the neighbourhood.

I guess BC tags are a bit cheaper, but if you bought say 2 deer tags a black bear tag and a moose tag it would be $65 more than BC, not all that bad really. The bad news is from what I was able to find in the regs it looks like you may need to take the Ontario hunters safety course, but I would contact the Ontario MNR first, just in case. Where will you be living and hunting and what part of the regs are you confused about (they can be confusing, no disputing that). Whatever has you stuck, just ask, we can help you out.

That is true !

IMHO, the step backwards is not due to higher licence costs. Look at the Big game lists and see the difference. On the other hand, hunting in Ontario must be much cheaper ( just summ it up and see how much for Big game licences in both provinces ) :(

If you'll be here in mid April, you could still take the turkey course, and the season is open apr.25 - may 31. Other than turkey, there's nothing to miss until fall.

don't know about ontario, but when i moved to alberta and went to buy a hunting licence, all i did was tell them i hunted in bc and they issued me a WIN and sold me licences with no more questions or proof required.

When I moved to Ontario from BC (3 years ago), I had the option of taking the Ontario hunters safety course or contesting the exam. I did the exam.

You'll have to be in Ontario for 6 months before you're considered a resident.
