Awhile back I bought a bunch of really nice 20 round mags from Corwin Arms and I really like them... haven't seen those in a while but I'm hoping they come in a 5 round version... unfortunately all the stubby 5 rounders look like they're made out of that crappy pot metal - even the one I got from Springfield. Can any of you fellas help me out?

The only 5 rounders I have seen were made by SAI. Tho there may be more options in the US. I had heard that Fulton Armory made some too. Sorry not too much help on this.

Pot metal? Lol...

The SAI ones are parkerized, maybe that is why they look off to you? They work perfectly.

I have an un-used Springfield one I can let go...PM me if interested.

I have a couple of 5 rounders that came with the gun when I bought it second hand. Couldn't tell you the make of the mags, but they have a parkerized finish, so not the ones you'd be looking for.

I have numerous 5/20 round magazines, and those are the only ones I use. The 5 rounders are a pain in the keester with the rock-and-lock mechanism. Not enough mag showing beneath the magwell the really grab onto. Not horrible to insert, but sucks balls to try and remove.

Stick with the 5/20 rounders. Save you a lot of cursing and swearing in the long run. Especially if you ever want to remove a mag in -20 wearing thick gloves.

On the five round mags take the floor plate out drill a hole in The center & insert A piece of leather boot lace about 4 inches long. Tie knots on both ends reinstall floor plate . Now you have something to grab.

Check the local gun shows and the Equipment Exchange here, usually some old Norinco ones can be found. We sell an end to end coupler which helps with the rocking the mag in and out issue, and will add an extra 5 rounds of ammo in close proximity.
