Does anyone eat Carnivores??

Just a note: Black Bears are Omnivores, same as humans, as are grizzlies! Smoked sausage made from bear meat is just as tasty as any other wild game I've eaten. No grizzlies in Newfoundland so I can't comment!

As for Cougars, most of the old books I've read on the Mountain Men, etc...they all praise the taste of cougar/mountain lion, along with Beaver Tail and Buffalo Hump. :) Bring on the double entendres!

Mountain lion, cougar, puma, all the same thing. I had it a couple times. Quite lean and very sweet tasting. Like someone else said, the mountain men of old used to eat it when ever they could. Deer, moose, etc get very mundane if thats all you have over time. I've read it was a welcome change in their diet.

Black bear

Can be excellent or pretty crappy, depending on what the animal has been eating, it's age etc

Grizzly Bear

Same as Black bear

Cougar

Very good, but like all carnivores, trim that sinew out, or you will know you are eating a cat

Dog (Yes DOG)

Eaten it courtesy of Chinese friend, in a restaurant in Vancouver. Special order. Pretty damn tender and very, very tasty. awesome, in fact

Never tried coyote, wolf or lynx.

Remember the Mel Gibson line in "The Patriot"? "...a dog makes a fine meal!":D I've threatened my Beagles and my Labrador Retreivers a time or two that if they didn't behave I was going to turn them into roasts, 'cause I've spent so much money on them and they were too valuable to simply put a bullet into!:D ...Never knew anyone that actually did! Was it like Lobster at a seafood restaurant Gatehouse, "pick your own pooch"?...how did you have him, "Spear Ribs?":D

OK, this is my opinion on eating carnivores (flame me, I don't give a sh!t) Wild canines and felines are fair game, have at 'er. Domestic cats & dogs are our friends and companions. The only time I'd agree with using them as food would be as a last resort, life or death starvation situation.

I did not like couger at all when I tried it. Very different flavor, but it does have to do with how its prepared. The couger I tried was done like a roast beef with gravy.....not good....not good at all.
