Does anyone else have a P14 opened up to 300 win mag?

Custom P-17 rechambered to 308 Norma mag. Who ever built it knew what they were doing. The stock looks like a Weatherby mark 5 which fits me perfectly. Adjustable trigger. Late 60’ Balvar sitting in an adjustable mount. Probably should take it to the range sometime soon.

Should take it hunting, is my reaction.

Years ago in also had one in .308 Norma mag was a tac driver but like a fool in my youth I sold it

And potashminer, thanks for that I may have already gotten it from you before, I know I've read it before. It was you or Jim that sent it to me.

I turned the feed rails in my p14 into a single stack mag free rails. So I need to open the action and load the round in the same a mag is filled. I have a video of it actually I'll edit this post and post it from the computer. the case was so fat it wouldn't fit between the rails so opposed to making it feed from the left and the right, it just center feeds

Should take it hunting, is my reaction.

Last time I took it hunting I was sitting in my stand and shot a 4 point at 480 yards. I had flags out every 50 across the field and had actually shot at those distances there. Wasn’t much of a challenge. Next year I stalked one for 600 yards across the field with a 54 cal muzzleloader. The thrill of doing that was much more than sitting and taking a shot. Crawling on your belly the last 100 yards definitely makes you feel like you earned that deer.

I stalked about 200 yds on a pair of whitetails in a Saskatchewan hay slough. Walking, crouching, bent over, hands and knees and leopard crawling. That stalk sticks in my mind as a successful and memorable hunt.

Epps and others did a lot back in the day, as mentioned you could ream a P17 from a 30-06 chamber to 300WM easily enough, and then modify the the mag.




Century sold them for years, doing both rebarreling and rechambering, and sold them in a B&C stock or a wood stock. Far nice than most of the cheaper BSAs you find, and a bargain back in the day, since you couldnt buy the parts for what they sold you the rifle for:

I put one together on a P14 Eddystone action, with an ER Shaw #2 contour barrel in a Boyd's Prairie Hunter laminate stock. I've worked up a load with a 175-grain Barnes LRX at 3,150 fps.

It feeds well (which can be a challenge with a converted action).

It's a bit heavy (10 pounds total, with scope), but I still hope to hunt with this rifle some day.

The p14's were rebarreled and the m17's just re chambered, normally, but in the OP it is not the case but he did state he uses .311" bullets

I had a 300 wm mag from Century arms. Was a tack driver. I also had a 338 wm built on a P14 from the Rifle Ranch in Riverhurst. It was a beautiful rifle too
