AFAIK, you can't send ex-us issued firearms back to the US.....law on their end of things.
I sure as f**k wouldn't send my gun to SA for any work....their commercial M1's are a joke and they would likely steal all your parts and replace them with worn out, freshly parked crap that they make their guns out of......

They are about a dozen times removed from the SA that build pre and post war M1's for the gov.

Yeah, cram SA, there's other places I was thinking of sending it. I know you can't export US issue stuff, I wonder if that's the same for getting work done. Maybe a note from your parents saying you promise to get it back or something.

The price I quoted before was just to get the work done. I'm surprised that SA would be so horrible!?! Does anyone else agree? I didn't look into the permits yet as I plan on getting it done in the new year (I'm sailing till mid Dec). Is there anywhere else that would be able to do the same thing without screwing anything up for me? All I really need is to have the barrel replaced and readied for shooting. There's no one around here who could do it for me. I'd also like to have it looked at to make sure there isn't anything else wrong with it. I had our NSRA Garand Guru look at it and he said that everything was fine. I'd like to have a second opinion though. Not that I don't trust him, but to just make sure. My rifle is a 1943 US issue. Any good ideas or suggestions to help me out than?

I am lucky to have two Garands, one full length with a VAR barrel, that just rocks at longer ranges, and a T-26 copy. This shorter one, is in 308 and wears a Leupold 2.5 power scout scope.

Both, very satisfying to take to the range.....
