I bought one of these this afternoon. I like the weight, the balance, the feel. The lock back and release mechanism will take some time to get accustomed.
No manual included, which I really am not liking how more companies are referring to the consumer to scan a QR code.
The one glaring thing I can say for sure is that even though the box included a PMAG, 30/5, it was a GEN2, and I can confirm that it does not seat properly, which would have been a bummer if it weren't for the fact that I have a gazillion PMAG GEN3s, which seat slightly better though it requires some force to get it to seat.
While I was at it I thought I'd break out various mags, and here's my results.
PMAG Gen 2 (included with the rifle package) - DOES NOT SEAT AT ALL, EVEN WITH FORCE
PMAG Gen 2 (windowed, other ones I have) - DOES NOT SEAT AT ALL, EVEN WITH FORCE
PMAG Gen 3 - SEATS WITH FORCE, and that doesn't mean a good sudden whack - it means a lot of strong upwards pushing. It does not drop free though
Duramag metal mag - 30 crimped to 5 - SEATS WITH LIGHT PRESSURE, DOES NOT DROP FREE
Duramag LAR15 Metal mags - SEATS WITH NO DIFFICULTY, fits perfectly, DROPS FREE
MFT LAR15 polymer mags - SEATS WITH NO DIFFICULTY, fits perfectly, DROPS FREE
I will bring it out to my club on the weekend.
Thanks - I am going to post this on the other bigger thread and follow that one since it seems to be the primary one for the Taipan.Id have a tough time paying full price for one (i won mine on sfrc) but that's not to say the quality isn't there, this rifle feels great and is well made, aside from mag issues that can be remidied if you please its been solid.
I address the magazine fitment issue in another taipan thread here,

I know at my local store it comes in 223 and 300 blk / aacYou've missed the game law question. Is the Taipan available in a legal hunting cartridge? Check your local regs.
Check your game laws for minimum cartridges. A hundred years ago when I took the course, 223 was considered much too light for big game. If you are buying something clearly for hunting, it should be more than enough gun, to paraphrase an African dangerous game hunter.I know at my local store it comes in 223 and 300 blk / aac
Out of curiosity, if North Sylva is the importer and would provide the warranty, wouldn't they be responsible for stocking parts for the guns they distribute? From a fellow who i know runs a gun store they are 50/50, half of them work and you will never have an issue
The other half are garbage with feeding issues that probably wont be resolved as parts are unobtainable from the manufacturer
I wouldn't touch one nor would I buy the Troy PAR
Just my 2 cents

Here is justification…” honey , as you well know…the c@nt Carney has banned most guns worth a damn in this once great country. As such , I’m buying this! I hope you like it…it should be here next Wednesday . Be home as mailman needs a signature as it’s a firearm delivery”…and THAT …is how you deal with THAT
Yes..yes it isThats how I roll - isn't that normal?
I'm waiting for the EVO model ... and the second it's available I'll be ordering one.
Yes, it's suppose to support AR triggers.I kinda recall watching a review on the Evo and I am pretty sure it could take AR triggers.
That *might* be enough to tip me over the edge.....
Based on all the reviews I have seen and what I have read, only the EVO natively supports AR triggers. The X does not.I kinda recall watching a review on the Evo and I am pretty sure it could take AR triggers.
