This is kinda where I am at.
I may consider the EVO but prey we get back to a government with a brain at some point.
My friend, you are more optimistic than me. I would love to see that, but that is just not the way society is going, and with the commonwealth countries, we seem to all move in lock step insofar as firearms laws and legislation. I am just glad we border the US, but even then we cannot get away from the commonwealth countries' approaches to firearms ownership.
Sadly, it takes only one tragedy to get governments to create the optics of "doing something". I think we can all see what their playbook is like - some on here have said that the playbook has been obvious for decades, and that may be true, but looking at how similar countries have done things may be a harbinger of things to come.
I may look into this some time when I have more time, but I would be interested in seeing what commonalties we have amongst what is still available. That said, I think even with Australia, I think I have seen recently with the Bondi Beach tragedy that they may institute things like limits on how man firearms one can own (think what the legislation said was 4) and having things like only citizens can get firearms (I though that was already the case, but guess not). We do know that in C21 in the "evergreen" provisions what characteristics are generally regarded in the sin bin, but the other issues is that the goal posts keep moving. I was close to getting a Crypto, an Sterling R9 and whatever else, since I am like, ah, I can still get something comparable. But fact of the matter is, what I like comparable wise is incompatible with the government's wider stance on what are the undesirable characteristics. Still, they will never get that if I put a whale tail on a Nissan Sentra, add a racing stripe and racing pedals, that does not make it a race car. They just don't like that, which is more incentive for me to kit out my guns the way I want and let the chips fall where they may.
Back to the Taipan - the ONLY real issue I have with it functionally (aside from the fact it is not semi auto) is that every time I shoulder it, my pump hand naturally ever-so-slightly pulls the forearm pump back, and that causes the round to go out of battery. I do wish like most pump shotguns once you pump it, it locks it unless you pull the trigger or activate a manual release. For a rifle, I don't get why they couldn't implement this - I am not sure it is on the Evo but if it is, that's an added bonus.
I do think I will look at what trigger options there are but sadly I don't think there are many third parties that made triggers for the X, and I may have to order from somewhere in Australia. I don't even think it's necessarily lightening the trigger - it just seems to be gritty and rough but maybe that's just me.
I try to keep my eye on the gun stores, but if anyone hears of the Evo landing, please post it here somewhere.
