I am wondering if anyone in Canada still does Magna-Porting? I am not looking to install a muzzle brake, only to help muzzle jump as recoil is not the issue. I have a few rifles Magna-Ported and quite like them. I also like the fact that they are not quite as loud as a muzzle brake! Just interested if a person can still get this done in Canada somewhere. Thanks!

"...any shop with an EDM machine can port a barrel..." Yep, except that, sadly, not just any shop can legally work on firearms any more.

Joe Undikes at Heliotex Corporation in Selkirk, Manitoba used to do porting. Joe may have passed away, but I understand that his son in law may have taken over the business. Here's the contact information:

Good luck.

The way I read it any shop can do work on your gun if you are present. They are assisting you. This is not a 'grey' area. Mark

Mag-na-port is, or certainly was, a patented process, and only one company in Canada was licensed to do the work. It was reported that they lost their license because of too many customer complaints regarding the quality of the work that they were doing. For quite a while no one in this country was legally able to do it, although if they called it by a different name perhaps they could get away with it.
As of this moment I believe this company is licensed, and if so the patent holder will probably stand behind the customer.
A word of caution; The story going around ten or fifteen years ago was that it's easy to make a mess of the job, and it could knock a lot of value off a rifle.

Weren't Weatherbys the only rifles Mag-Na-Ported at the factory? They were the only ones I saw and shot anyway, and it worked very well.
