I recently saw this at my local gun store, and it was like $8.00 less a box than the apparently comparable Federal Hydra Shok 9mm 124gr round. I asked the fella behind the counter, and he said he heard good things about it, but it is a relatively new product. I bought it anyways, since I can always try it out later. I haven't been able to find much information on Punch, and especially how it compares to Hydra Shok. Both are personal defense rounds. I believe I read that Hydra Shok is commonly used by law enforcement and Punch is supposed to be the civilian personal defense version. I don't understand the difference and implications. My initial impression is, well, if it is comparable, why is there such a price discrepancy? Anyone have any information they can share?

I did some shopping today and found another product, that was cheaper than both Hydra Shok and Punch, also made by Federal. It is called Syntech Defense. Apparently it breaks into three pieces upon impact, but also because of the materials, reduce heat and friction in the gun (and as a result less residue). Anyone have this ammo?

Apparently it isn't designed to perform to FBI standards as regards to performance after penetrating solid barriers like car doors and glass. It is only tested to go through heavy clothing as one might encounter in a self defensesituation, so it uses cheaper materials.

Auggie D.
