Does anyone know of US ranges with smith and wesson 5946 rental

Any state in particular? The US is pretty big.
The 5946 is not a super popular gun these days. Most ranges have more modern offerings.
Why the 5946? Trying to get your horse cop on?

Surely there's someone at your range who owns one of those goofy DA/SA horse cop things? Ask them if you can shoot it? Why are you going to the states?

If I were you, I'd write a simple message - "Have you a S&W 5946 available for rental?" - which I'd then copy and paste to every known rental range to which I was willing to travel.

Each of them will respond, in time, and then you'll know.

DAO. It is fairly pleasant to shoot at least.

Just go make friends with a mountie, I'm sure they'll take you to the range.

Never. Talk. To cops.

There are so many variations, I forgot these were DAO. Thanks, but the gun is still goofy imo.

Back early 1990's was part of an evaluation of various .40 S&W & 9mm service pistols for an eventual transition from the S&W, K frame .38 Spl to an auto pistol for duty use.

The best use for the 5946 was determined to be to keep the stack of targets on the loading bench from blowing away. :p

NAA.

Actually the weight of the thing was a factor in rejecting it for adoption due to concerns about potential workplace health claims, especially for officers of "slighter" build. When you add the weight of the gun and 2 mags with up to 17 rounds of ammo, it was a big increase from the six shooter and 2 speedloaders of .38. This was before the tactical type vests that they wear now and there is so much stuff to carry.

I don't know where you would find a S&W 5946 in a rental range as it as been discontinued for so long and was never a popular model in the US.

I bet you talk to cops and you don't even know. The ones I know are more pro gun then most of the posers.

Oh forgot, I'm on your ignore list. If every cop is bad in your mind. Then every gun owners is a criminal, every priest is a pedo, every Irish is drunk.

If you were or will be near Calgary, we can go shoot this heater.

If you notice, it has a 106mm barrel to prevent us from robbing 7-11s on the way home.

I carried a 5946 for 18 years. I liked it and did reasonably well at qualification. Some of the skinny members had trouble handling the pistol. A couple of the members I worked with were always available for some practice sessions out in a gravel pit somewhere, so we were reasonably comfortable with the weight and trigger pull.

At one time, the NYPD had safeties installed on their S&W revolvers on account of the amount of unintended discharges. Go figure! Not much danger of a 5946 having such a thing, but I suppose it could happen.

never liked the S&W's that have a mag disconnect. Great admin safety, terrible operational safety. In the older guns 4046/5946, Smith did a great job at making a DAO trigger. but that's about it.
