Looking to identify this black powder rifle. Appears to be .45 caliber and is percussion operated.

There don't appear to be any markings on it.

The front sight is very complex and any help would be greatly appreciated

thankyou

hard to say without better pics...looks like some pedersolli repro target rifles i have seen...but without a higher resolution photo. Others here know more then I

Hey Locked.

There doesn't appear to be any markings on this thing....a repro would have something on it though wouldn't it? or is there a place that is right out of sight that it could be stamped in some way that I am missing perhaps?

It is a target rifle in a style that was popular during the 3rd quarter of the 19th century.
The photos are so small I cannot see detail well enough to tell if it antique or modern.
If it is antique, it would be quite valuable. An original would be well marked. If there are no markings, I would assume that it is a modern reproduction, although perhaps not a factory product.

Lack of any markings suggest to me a couple of possibilities... a "homebuilt" or otherwise custom made rifle, perhaps assemble from kit or parts like Track of the Wolf sells... or perhaps a "refinished" rifle where all the manufacturers and proof marks were removed in the process.

Check under the barrel for proof or other marks, and on the inside surfaces of the lock for manufacturers marks.

Generally looks like a mid-1800s target rifle... rear sight appears to be elevation adjustable only so "very complex" fore sight is likely windage (perhaps vernier) adjustable... standard for that period.

With the small pics it's hard to tell... does it seem like modern or original manufacture?

Looks like a Pedersoli Gibbs Rifle with markings removed?

Take the lock plate off and check for the proof markss, IIRC the Pedersoli guns have the name on the lock plates inside, pretty sure my shotgun does.
Whatever it is, I'd be itching to shoot it!

However had it before you was clearly serious about their target shooting. The front and rear sight combo is worth around $300 or so new.

It s probably a custom made job but Ardessa of spain made target rifles similar to that years ago , but it should be marked as such.I would take the barrel out of the stock and check it to see if there are any proof marks or anything else on it.
