I believe Smith & Wesson used to make a 9 mm, are they still generally available (affordable).

9mm I thought were a challenge to make possibly why I don't see any around.

Anyone have any experience with this calibre in a wheel gun and shed some light on the subject?

Not a challenge to make, just not popular cartridge for revolver because you can get a semi that holds 10-17 rounds

I would love to have one. They are available from charter arms, but quality is not a term most people use to describe them

I have the Ruger Blackhawk convertible. It is a little ammo sensitive in 9mm as it uses the brass to seat the bullet in the cylinder. People say it is not accurate but it is more accurate than me, that is for sure. I like the idea of one gun being able to shoot different calibers and like the 9mm/.38/.357 combo just fine. I have two revolvers that use moon clips and I like the Ruger better because it is tough to get the spent brass out of the moon clips, even with a tool.

You're right the "Convertible" is chambered in 357mag & 9mm in a 4.6 and 6.5 in barrel..

Very nice thing it also handles 38 special, so (3) calibers in one gun, great SHTF tool

Very versatile, would be nice in stainless

Thanks

Any others?

The Smith 547 and Ruger 9mm revolvers are no longer made. I bought a 547 a few years ago on the EE, had the barrel changed to make it "restricted", and still have it. I like it. Charter Arms has recently released a short-barrelled revolver they call the "Pit Bull" in 9mm and in
.44. I understand some 6" versions are being sold in Canada. Both the Smith and the Charter use clever modifications of the extractor to allow the rimless 9mm casing to be ejected without need for "moon clips". Of the two I think the Smith is probably the better product, but it's only available when someone wants to sell one, and the price tends to be quite high. I've never shot the Charter Arms gun, but it seems to be OK. I hope to get one when the initial "teething" period is over, maybe in a year or so.

S&W 547 is an excellent revolver but prohib unless you have the barrel changed...

S&W 940 mentioned above is the J frame / hammerless version that needs moon clips (or a pen to poke out empties). Also nice, somewhat pointless here where there is no concealed carry, also prohib.

The Charter Arms 9mm cylinder is almost as cool a piece of work as the S&W 547. No moon clips required. Sadly, they are a bit rough. I haven't seen any range reports on them for accuracy.

9mm is an awesome revolver round. Extremely accurate, in the K frame 547 it does even better than .38 mid range match wadcutter ammunition. I haven't had the pleasure of the Ruger product, someone else will need to chime in on accuracy etc.

The S&W 547 (3" round butt and 4" square) and 940 (2" and 3") are on my must-keep list.
