I am concidering buying a CZ455FS or Varmint and was wondering if anyone one here owns or has handled one, so they can give their impressions of it. It's a good sum for a 22, so I am looking for feedback please and thank you.

I have had a look at a CZ455 Varmint with a thumbhole stock, my dad's friend bought it, he was showing it to my dad and me the other day. It's a nice rifle a little on the heavy side with the varmint barrel, laminated wood stock. A word of caution if you go to mount a 3-9x40 scope on it use medium rings, with the low rings the bolt will touch the scope on opening. He also said that with CZ 455 you can swap barrel and change the caliber from .22LR to .17 HMR, but the barrels are hard to find. He is installing a trigger kit from yodaveproducts.com after he finishes installing, he offered to take us out to shoot his rifle. Hopefully sometime soon.

RimfireCentral has an entire forum on CZ and the stickies alone are worth a read.

The CZ455 is about as close to an Annie as you're going to get and for half the price. If you're mounting a scope (i.e. the American model), you should really check out the table of known good combinations of scopes/rings. If you wind up getting a Lux model (hogback stock with iron sights) get the lowest rings possible or you'll wind up with a chin weld. The FS is an absolutely gorgeous rifle.

Barrels alone aren't plentiful, but the rifle and two or three barrel kits are readily available and make the most sense cost-wise anyway. Prophet River had the best pricing when I was in the market for one.

I have a 455 Varmint, and love it. Put a YoDave trigger in it as well. 2 lb pull, no creep. I put a Nikon Rimfire 3-9x40 with medium rings, and a weaver adapter. The above posters are right about being a bit on the heavy side, and needing medium rings. However at 50yds, I can place 10 shots in a 1" grouping, from the bench. Very accurate. Some older CZ fans do not like it, and would preper their 452's, however I like the barrel change option, though will probably just buy another CZ before swapping barrels. You can also get a barrel for 22 mag as well as .17. Too bad you were not in Southern Ontario, or you could give mine a try.

I just bought a CZ 455 Lux. I'm pleased in general, but am researching and learning that I am not the only owner to come across Failure To Feeds, where the cartridge loads too low or (in my case) too high causing it to jam and mar the bullet. Some homework is telling me its the magazine. I have two magazines and only now have I noted that one is apparently been the cause of the frustration. Other than that, fit, finish and over all operation is very nice.

I have the 455 varmint and I am very happy with it, my only complaint being that it occasionally fails to feed the last round in the mag properly. The bull barrel is instantly recognizable as more robust than the tapered 452 varmint barrel. The target-style crown is nice. The bolt feels smooth and solid.

I haven't shot the 452 and 455 side by side, but my target comparisons don't show a clear winner between the two. Both are excellent.

With a bipod and a 50mm scope, mine is a little chunky...but it has a great personality.
You would be hard pressed to get me to sell this one - which is exactly what I said about the 452 this one replaced ;)

I have yet to shoot mine. Waiting on rings and trying to decide on a scope. It sure does look perdy though. Makes my savage 93 look like crap quality wise though

To fix the last round failing to feed issue, disassemble your magazine, and turn your spring around. Back of mag to front of mag, not top to bottom. Make sure the follower is in the right direction, with the longer tongue (for lack of a better word) at the front of the mag.

Worked wonders for me. All rounds feed perfectly now.

Thanks,
Cal.

I had my CZ 452 out yesterday with the Blazer ammo.
Dang stuff is fat and ran into the same feeding problems.
Bolt on the odd round was hard to close as well.
As much as I hate to say it, but I have had decent luck
shooting the Winchester 555 in all my pea shooters.

Yesterday was my 3rd day out with my 16" American 452 in .22lr, and I was hitting a 7" x 4" piece of steel 4/5 times at 225 yards consistently.

I'm sure other's can do better, but I was pretty happy with that. It's getting better and better day by day.

Thanks,
Cal.

Hey Cal,

Mine,a 455 Super Match had this problem feeding. Not only the last but all...

Just did your mag spring trick and it's feeding very well now...

Thanks a lot

455 Lux.

Have a new one with 2 barrels. 22LR and 22Mag. Fired both but am only using the 22Mag as I have a 1022 for 22LR. I think a better option for me would have been a 22Mag/17 HMR. Also don't recommend the Lux model as it comes with sights that can interfere with scope mounting. Had to remove my rear sight. I find CZs very accurate especially compared to 1022s. Shot a 1/4 inch 5 shot group at 50 yds with my pals .17 452 couple of days ago. The Vortex 3-12 scope helped a little. CZs are an awesome gun for the price.

I've had the pleasure to use a Brno Model 2. The CZ 452 is the Brno Model 2. In truth, the only gun that CZ makes that wasen't originally a Brno is the 527 and 75 series. My friend owns a Brno ZKK-2E and thats just an 80's CZ 452 Military Training Model. CZ for some reason back then put the name Brno on almost everything they imported into North America back then. I have a nother friend that purchased a new CZ 455 LUX and I got to try that one out as well.

Out of all 3, the Brno Model 2 was my favorite although the ZKK-2E was pretty damn close. I didn't like the new look of the CZ 455 LUX. The barrel is shorter, and they no longer do the attractive Schnabel style forend. That new blocky look just throws the whole gun off. That doesn't mean its a bad shooter though. Even with its shorter barrel, it was putting groups on paper at 50meters just as well as my friends ZKK-2E.

Would I buy a new 455? Oh yea I would but it would have to be an FS model in .17HMR.

I had a feeding issue recently. It took me a little too long to realize that one mag was the culprit, but after the shop I purchased from swapped it no questions asked I was happily firing again.
I'm disappointed that the mags aren't metal from the factory... it is what it is I guess.
